virtual memory

Post by ischa »

i've been having some problems with SoR freezing up due to lack of vertual memory. at the moment there is a web page stored on my computer, if that has anything to do with it (hopefully it will be on someone else's computer in a few months) until then is there any way to help the virtual memory (that is, assuming that getting the web page off of our competer will help. will it?)? This is why i'll be on and talking and then, all of a sudden, fall silent for the rest of the night. any suggestions would help.
thanks,
olwen

p.s. the disk defragmenter says that there is still 42% of free space left on my computer

The game uses about 1 GB to 1.5 GB of RAM.
So if you have less than this in physical you will need to make it up in virtual.
Depending on your system capability, you may need to manually set the virtual paging size. Some folks find that doing it manually keeps things from locking up or crashing when the game starts swapping things. Setting your virtual RAM to 2 GB should be plenty.

assuming you have windows xp:
* click the start menu, right click on 'my computer' and choose properties
* in the window that pops up click the advanced tab
* then the settings button next to performace
* then advanced
* at the bottom you should see Virtual Memory, click the change button
* make sure custom size is selected and put the same number in both boxes then press ok. you might need to reboot after all this.

there are recommended settings shown at the bottom of the window, generally 1.5 x your physical memory is a good amount, but if you have low memory then higher might be needed.

good luck with that :)

and you having a web page saved wont make any difference to anything.
