Ryzom is a classless system (we have no class). Everything is based on function. If you kill something with a sword, you get better at killing things with swords. If you heal someone in combat, you get better at healing people in combat. etc. etc.

Each race is mostly the same except for their initial fame toward the higher powers. And even that can be reversed by doing the right missions for the other higher power.

If you want to play the role of a priest (i.e. healer), pick up a set of amps, get the heal other skill and go for it. The more you do it, the better you get at it.

Magic amplifier. If you chose the mage starter pack, you got one in that or you can buy one or have a crafter make one for you.

I'd say the main combat trees all of a purpose in pvp and pve.

In pve, the tanks are good for holding the agro while the mages kills the beastie and the healer is critical to both.

In pvp, the healers are critical to keeping everyone alive; the mages do the majority of the damage and the melee gets in and disrupts the mages and healers of the other side.

Those are the main trees. There are a couple of secondary trees (affliction magic, for example; ranged combat for another) that aren't used as much, but provide some usefulness. Most folks level those trees after they've gotten a bit of a experience in the main trees.

Welcome to Atys blueyess!

An amp is a magic amplifier. :) They look like a a pair of gloves - stylish for Tryker amp, oven mitts for some less fortunate races. :D

They can be found at the melee weapon merchants that sell two-handed weapons or from player crafters.

You can level offensive and healing magic at the same time - even in the same fight. Although it may be more efficient to stick to one or the other in a particular team hunt.

The best pvp/pve characters are the ones you enjoy most. :) Melee and elemental (offensive) and healing magic tend to have the most obvious impact in a fight - but all skills are useful.
