how big is the player base? i am sick of wow.
i like to pvp i think strategic resource control between guilds sounds cool, is that in the game? the descriptions are kinda vague about pvp it just said you could do team pvp.
how dynamic is it really? no other game that i've played has delivered on the "dynamic" stuff, except shadowbane, which by the way was a great idea horrible implimentation.
This game seems to have some sci fi elements to it. i'm download free trial.
Whats this about?
Re: Whats this about?
The playerbase is big enough but always pleased to welcome more. Welcome to Atys
*hugs*
Guilds may fight each other over the 28 outposts, each of which allows access to a unique material for crafting. Outpost battles have seen mass PvP involving anything up to maybe 100 people at once.
How dynamic is what? The world and politics are very static, outposts seem to be pretty static, the wildlife moves around and follows seasonal migrations but numbers are pretty balanced by a natural predator / prey dynamic.
The game is sci-fi but includes a type of magic taught to homins by a more developed race, the Kami.

Re: Whats this about?
"Very static"? Wow, are we playing the same game? I see a very dynamic world and political state. The Trykers seem to be mowing their own fiercely-independent path, despite the maintenance of diplomatic overtures by their government. The ownership and usage of outposts determines to some extent the state of politics and economy - what factions own how many, how much free distribution vs. selling there is of outpost resources, etc. The actual state of the races and factions is determined by the players/characters - as Iwojimmy has pointed out a couple of times, the Zoraï are in general not so philosophically inclined anymore, and few are interested in the Goo. Things fluctuate depending on whether people believe faction comes before race, race before faction, or neither, or any of many other factors.jamela wrote:How dynamic is what? Oh and by the way...the Goo is spreading.

Re: Whats this about?
Hey Mmjarec, don't know about resource control except maybe some harvesting spots that are fought over at times. Don't think that is what you are talking about.
Still months away, but this patch will maybe interest you: http://www.ryzom.com/?page=news&id=1456

Re: Whats this about?
Welcome mmjarec!
I think the politics are quite dynamic. A leader has died, a new one elected, policies have changed, allegiances have shifted, etc. As for outposts, they have been around about 5 months. Twenty-eight outposts total, I counted 38 transfers of outposts between guilds - most of them friendly. Many many more failed attacks on outposts have occurred. Out of the 28 outposts, only 8 outposts have stayed in the hands of the same guild for the entire 5 months (although the entire 7 Matis ops have seen only friendly transfers). So pretty static or dynamic? Depends on your definition, I suppose.
Some outpost battles have certainly passed 150 participants. I think a few have reached 200.jamela wrote:Guilds may fight each other over the 28 outposts, each of which allows access to a unique material for crafting. Re: Whats this about?
I seem to spend half my game time fighting at op battles - so i dont see how you can call them static

Re: Whats this about?
Thankyou for the numbers, Riveit. 5 months is about 22 weeks, you say no more than 18 aggressive takeovers so that's less than one shift of power per week. And some outposts have never been taken by hostile action since they were liberated from the Marauders. That's what I meant by pretty static, there has been far less to and fro than I anticipated there would be.
I realise that there may be far more attacks than I'd ever know of and Rundll's comment suggests there are far more than I would have guessed. If there are so many battles though, and so few successful hostile actions, then that makes the outpost situation look even more static.
You're absolutely right though Jel, the player politics have been quite explosive. I made a glib statement based upon a feeling that the NPC politics are almost entirely beyond our control and have no tangible effect upon us. There've been elections now in both Fyros and Tryker and I think these show a lot of promise for things to come, but apart from the temple building we've had no effect upon the NPC politics that has yet made any tangible difference to us, have we? I suspect that the election result in Fyros led to Wyler's assassination, leading to elections in Tryker, and that these will lead events in a certain direction too. But so far this has made not even made any difference to the Tribes or the towns despite the fact that Black Circle (?) was implicated, in a small way at least, in the assassination. Can anyone say if the course of events on each of the 3 servers are slowly diverging? Was the Tryker Governor assassinated on all 3 servers?
Where is the Goo spreading? For more than a year now I have been visiting several resource nodes on the pink fringes and I've not noticed any change. I'll go look a bit more closely
