lore question

Post by ischa »

i had a question about the history and lore of ryzom. i'm still new (still on the starter island), so bear with me. I had though that i read somewhere that trykers were once slaves to the matis, but in the online manuel and in it is a chart that says that trykers can gain the most fame with matis (outside of their own race) and vise versa. why is this? I had also read that the kamis showed themselves to the trykers first, so why can't trykers be loyal to kamis? I picked a tryker for myself, and this is why i'm so curious. i also sortof liked the sounds of the kamis over the karavan too.

p.s. my tryker's name is Olwen

You can you just need to do missions for the kami or kill karavan guards(with a group of high lvl ppl to help you).

Kami FTW!

I can't remember why the Matis and Trykers became allies...used to be Trykers and Fyros, before the Great Swarming...

Trykers can definitely become Kamist though. There's a whole Tryker Kamist guild, Team Spirit.
Jelathnia, Kasarinia, KianShi, Maethro, ShuaLi, and OPaxie (Arispotle)
TeiJeng (Leanon)

I thought it was because once the Trykers were free people, the Fyros exploited them, demanding cheap water in return for protection or something similar. During a Fyros-Matis war, they sided with the Matis to get from underneath the Fyros oppression and become free again.

I think I read that somewhere, but im not sure, don't shoot me if I'm wrong :p

EDIT: did some digging, here's what I found:
Who are our friends ?
Since the Peace Treaty signed at Fairhaven in 2515, we have been at peace with the other homin peoples. But that don't stop us having our likes and dislikes.
>Matis : Despite past disputes and misunderstandings, the Matis now respect our freedom of thought and our right to build our society as we feel fit. After all, what really counts is that we share a faith in Jena. Thanks to Jena our friendship has never been stronger, especially since the Matis ratified the Homin Rights Act. What's more, to a certain extent the Matis owe us their freedom after the dictatorship of Jinovitch. Not only did the Tryker Council give Yrkanis political asylum in Fairhaven but Still Wyler escorted him back into Matis lands to defeat Jinovitch to accede to the throne.
Fyros : The Fyros were once allies who exploited our need for protection by having us supply Fyros towns with merchandise at low cost. Since we've learnt to fight for ourselves we no longer need the patronizing Fyros protectors, especially with the new feeling of fraternity with the Matis. And besides, the Fyros have gotten closer to the Kamis.
Zoraï : The Zoraïs are not to be trusted, they openly breach Jena Law by venerating the Kamis. What's more, during the Great Swarming in the old lands, the Zoraïs refused to let us through their great wall and let many thousands of Trykers perish in the jaws of the kitins. More recently, it was the Zoraïs who first installed slavery in the new lands. Friendly tribes include : The Frahar Hunters, The Silt Sculptors, The Corsairs, The Beachcombers, The Shadow Runners, The Green Seed, The Slash and Burn, The Ecowarriors, The Oasis Diggers, The Kuilde.

I think the story is that despite how badly the Matis treated the Trykers, the Fyros treated them worse, and were seen as a greater threat to the Tryker nation. The commonality of interest between the current generations of rulers overrides (but doesnt wipe out ) the injustices of previous dynasties.

My guess is the racial alliances were supposed to be uneasy, the dominance-mad Matis and the do-your-own-thing Trykers versus the Argh-HIT-THINGS! Fyros and the philosphical Zorais.. except there dont seem to be any philosophical, thoughtful Zorais :(

As for the Factions, everyone is free to choose their side, and Trykers freer than most.. If you want to fight against building a better world, and struggle to hold Homins down with the bodocs and stingas, then sure, the Kami are the side for you :p

slaves for the off-worlders, or fodder for the soul-eater.. take your pick :)
(at least as a slave for the karavan you get to travel :D )

Neutrality is an option, and if enough people take it maybe we can tell both so-called 'super powers' to take a hike :)

lol, i hate to get political, but i wish the real world would do that.

i guess i need to learn more about the kamis and karavan before i really make a decision, not that i was strongly wanting the kamis, but it seemes to me like they are the nature loving underdog (which i like). I am fasinated by all the lore here in Ryzom, especially after coming from WoW, where the lore rarely if ever has any effect on gameplay.
thanks for answering all my questions,
~Olwen
