Random reboots and crashes

This is getting rediculous, I had crashes before but i still got hours of gametime between them. Since this most recent patch, I can't play for more than 5-10 min without a crash. This is not cool. I'm about to stop playing and i really do like the game.

To clarify, no I don't use a linksys router I use a Dlink 5port switch. Secondly post patch seems to be better for me as I was able to hunt for a good 4+ hours last night without a crash. Oddly enough as soon as I got back to town to sell my mats the game puked and dumped me to the desktop (much better than a reboot in my opinion).

My husband has the same random crash problems, while I don't. We share the same Lynksys router so that is not the problem. Neither computer is an AMD machine, I have an ATI graphics card and he has an nVidia graphics card. So his problem isn't AMD, ATI, nor LYnksys. I made sure his computer was set to use Open GL, so that isn't the problem either. I have also updated to the latest drivers for the monitor, mouse, and grahics card. We are both using Win XP Pro with SP2 installed, so that isn't the problem. I can't think of anything else to tweak on his system.

Any help would be appreciated!

As you can see, my husband got the old computer , but both meet or exceed the system requirements for SoR. And his computer took me through the URU beta tests and URU Live with zero problems.

My Computer (the good one)
P4 - 3.2GHz (dual processors)
1 GB DDR RAM
ATI 9600 128MB (Ryzom set to use D3D)
Sound Blaster Audigy (Ryzom set to use EAX effects)

His Computer (the one with problems)
P3 - 930 GHz (equivalent to 1 GHz)
512 MB RAM
nVidia GeForce 5200 128MB (Ryzom set to use Open GL)
Sound Blaster Live (Ryzom set to use EAX effects)

I tested my AMD-XP2500 Barton 333FSB last night by detuning the FSB form 166 to 133 base. Performance was generally the same as I have 1GB of RAM, but I have to say, I did not experence a single crash in the following 3 hours of play. While this is by no means enough data to support a theory it will help ALL AMD users, it serves as a possible "short term fix" for those capable of altering their clock/FSB and multiplier. IMHO, we should not have to do this, but the game is awesome and will do whatever to play it at this point.

my fsb is at 200mhz and in no way will I drop it back down to 133mhz, I'll live with the game crashes and reboots thank you very much. After this latest patch I find I can go longer inbetween crashes/reboots than I could before. It also seems to help if you play ryzom from a fresh boot, and if it crashes fresh boot the system before going back into the game, as if you don't you may find it crashing faster than if you hadn't started with a fresh boot. I really hope the devs are looking into this issue, as it's the only major complaint I have of this game at this point.

My processor speed drop was setting the FSB to like 198 instead of 200, not a drastic drop like that, and most P4 systems do not like you make such tweaks of any kind. Let me clarify...I do not know if Ryzom is crashign because of a heat related issue. What I do know is that most peopel that have very minorly underclocked their proecssor OR installed an extra fan have fixed there problems.

Ryzom uses the processor, graphics card, RAM, and hard drive more than any other program I know so it makes sense to me that it might be a heat issue. I just suggest everyone to see if it might be a heat issue first, because that it the cause of most of the current problems....and stop telling me that the motherboard temp reads fine, because I dont know enough about computers to know what temperatures are instable.

generally amd systems that are at stock speeds start to have stability issues at 60c while overclocked cpus tend to get flakey above 55c. Use a temp monitoring program like Motherboard Monitor 5 to check what your temps are. My load temp (load temp is the temp of the cpu while it is bieng stressed) of 44c and the fact that I have 6 80mm and 1 120mm case fans, tend to rule out a heat issue on my pc atleast. And I have tried clocking back to default speeds and that did not work either. To those who have gotten it to stop by using amitst's trick, lucky you... but for me there is something else lurking around.

Day 2: Still no crashes whatsoever with FSB lowered from 166 (333mhz DDR) to 133 (266mhz DDR).

I really dislike having to "tune" my system for each game I play, but I have to admit... I do it in order to enjoy the game.

Could the cause of the crash be antivirus or firewall software?

I got NOD32 antivirus and I did disabled and unloaded all it's scanning funtions before starting Ryzom. That caused Ryzoms network socket or something to crash silently.

Game disconnected every 1,5 hours. And my ADSL-modem needed to be restarted too. Maybe my ISP's router shut the connection down because of too much faulty packets?

Then I just disabled the NOD32's Internet Monitor instead of unloading the whole driver and Now I have been able to play 16 hours in a row without any crashes. Neither I haven't needed to shut down the Ryzom.exe at first startup attempt of startup as I were used before.

And now as I I'm levelling only as fighter crafter I don't either need to restart to make My sap crystals visible again.

DAY 3 not a single crash. I am going to leave system as is on 133 bus and not 166. I am not sure why the coding of this game causes more CPU stresses than any other including Extremely High Content games like Farcry which I run flawlessly, but will accept that I have found a solution I can play with for now.

For those not following thread:
I crashed 4-5 times an hour, set my CPU FSB from 166 to 133 and have not had a single crash since.
