Here is the deal:
I know i'm gonna get flamed by the fanboys/girls. But the loot system for the game is/WILL kill this game if it stays the way it is. Check out Horizons and how they are doing.
From the NPC, white dot mobs, you get just dappers; no equipment. You don't get anything special from critters. The loot system is extremely boring.
We can sit here and argue that its something new/refreshing or realistic or some other non-sense to defend Nevrax but its plain as this; they screwed up the loot system bad.
Its make or break in the early life of a MMORPG. IF you don't fix it Nevrax it'll become fatal. =/
And trust me its broken.
I'm not sure....

To quote the helpful folks, vanilla and chocolate.
And bear in mind, prefacing your comments as indicating that anyone disagreeing with you is 'flaming by the fanbois' isn't really conducive to a really good discussion or debate.
You may not like it. I do. <shrug> I will agree that I'd like to see humanoid mobs drop something other than a few hundred dappers, but I have no problem with monster loot. I have over 30 pieces of supreme mats harvested from monsters, so you can get some special loot... and with a crafter, you can turn that special loot into a customised weapon or armour or jewelry. Rathar than a stock dagger or sword or shield that always drops from the same camped mob, you have the components to make the item you want.
I enjoy the craft system and I think it gives players (both crafter and non) a huge say in the system and in the final products once mats and finished goods become available through NPC vendors.
Maybe you'll want oath bark and big shells... maybe you want dzao fiber versus shu fiber. Maybe you want a primarily dodge armour or maybe you want one that soaks damage. All q50 2 handed swords are not created equal. There is as much variety in the resulting weapons as many games you can name (or at least as they were at 4 weeks old).
If you don't like it, that's fine. It's not for everyone, but understand that the points you don't like about it are what draw some players to the game.
Tin.
Re: I'm not sure....
Good point, I could easily point the individual out as a hater, but I won't. If anyone took the time to read upcomming patch notes they would have seen that Nervax is entending to make looted item's more worth while. So, like the person said in the quote above, if you want better answers, don't associate people who dissagree with your opinion as "fan boi's"And bear in mind, prefacing your comments as indicating that anyone disagreeing with you is 'flaming by the fanbois' isn't really conducive to a really good discussion or debate.
Re: I'm not sure....
This is an interesting take on the "looting" system. I for one think it is fine. I do agree the hominiods should drop stuff more inline with what they have, but past that I like it.
My "problem" with the system (and is what I thought you were going to address) is the way the looting works (or doesn't) in a group. Loved the way DAoC did this with the auto splitting in groups (wasn't perfect but was more fair anyway). It is very very annoying to have to try to either round robin who loots each mob (which ends up not working when in a very busy group) or try to split the loot at some point in the future (which most of the time ends up not happening). Really need to look into this soon.
Just my take on the situation to date.

Re: I'm not sure....
Here are the fanboys running to defend their game and its holes. Now until the patch comes in that address the loot system I'm gonna let it be known that it IS broken.
Trust me you may like it now but say in a couple months, let alone a year or two, the loot system will be the killer if it remains the same or is simply a small fix.
The system needs an overhaul. Equipment that drops on mobs should be useful in some way that doesn't involve selling for dappers or bringing to harvestors.
It can also be far more interesting. Now, tinpony, you may like it. I personally do not and I don't believe you'll get more votes in favor of the current system.
Like it or not only the fanboys praise the current system. So give me a very godo reason why I or many others who are already bored with it should like it besides. Oh I found supreme here or there. You found supreme, congratz, now how useful is that to you without having to go to a crafter?
Give me a break. The loot system sucks at this point. It needs to have alot of major changes. But cheer away; I might begin to think you are working for Nevrax.

Re: I'm not sure....
So your saying that you should never have to take your items anywhere just use them? Just because you don't feel like making a crafter or going to one to make those loot drops into a usefull item does not mean it is broken as you say. Seems you have the only extreamly negative comment on this post and no one to back you up so I'm guessing it might be just you. Everyone has different tastes and just because it doesnt match your tastes in the way it should be done doesnt mean its broken.dethnobl wrote:Here are the fanboys running to defend their game and its holes. Re: I'm not sure....
I think the general point people are trying to make is that frankly Nevrax doesn't care if you or the others who are bored with it like it. Those who are will leave for EverQuest, World of Warcraft, or a myriad of other games who already cater to the mainstream fantasy gaming crowd. No amount of changes will satisfy that crowd, and they simply cannot compete toe to toe with that kind of financial backing. The only way Ryzom will be able to compete with such games is by being different, sometimes to a fault.dethnobl wrote:Like it or not only the fanboys praise the current system. Seems quite a few people come to Ryzom looking for another EverQuest clone, generic fantasy MMORPG #42. Not a recipe for success for Nevrax. Their strength is an unusual world, some very quirky gaming mechanics (non combattive characters? an entirely tradeskill driven economy?), and frankly their ability to get the product on the shelves before the 500lb gorillas come down. It may or may not work, only time will tell in that regard, but moving towards the mainstream of fantasy gaming is a recipe for certain disaster.
Re: I'm not sure....
Some of the things killing Horizons are:-
Terrible Engine, get more than a few people on screen and they appear as grey shadows
The Dev's are either lairs or unable to produce what they talk about.
David Bowman - This man gives the kiss of death to any game, a blatent BullSh***r
No events anymore
Most of the team were sacked month ago, the remaining Dev's dont appear to be able to produce anything new.
AE were declared bankrupt, they merged the 5 user servers into 2, and have just announced that due to lack of players the 3 EU servers are going to be merged.
Incredible network lag.
Awful combat lag
The servers are down for hours every day due to crashe and maintenance.
Much less population than Ryzom!
CTD bugs that have not been fixed in a year.
Many quests are bugged, and have been for a year.
They messed crafting up with a recent big patch, and thus the one good element of the game is now poor.
Boring mobs, all just wolves and golems.
Classes are irrepairably unbalanced, and have been since launch.
90% of all features promised at launch were canned.
Terrible GM support, almost no communication.
Dragons despite being a selling point were infact one of the weakest classes, and had severe content shortages.
No loot was one of the good points, it helps the economy and crafters, either you love it or hate it.
How exactly can you impliment useable loot drops in a crafting environment? If the loot is better than crafted loot, no-one will craft, and if crafted items are better than loot, no-one will do anything with loot but sell it.
I see your fast to complain, but you dont offer any solutions or suggestions.

1) I am not a fanboi nor do I plan to continue long with this game - have other goals and a few different issues with this game.
2) The loot system is not broken - it is as planned (minus a proper vending system) and is working as planned (also with minus). Just because it doesn't coincide with your view of a loot system - does not mean it is broken.
3) Buy a bic (and use it) to lighten that tunnel you seem to be in. Not all games need to follow a vanilla pattern that you, or I, expect. Find one that conforms to similar ideas of what you seek.
