Some newbie questions

Post by idoltalk »

1. Should I specialize in how I level up, or is there no real penalty for "mutliclassing" aside from a proportional increase in the time needed? There seems to be diminishing returns on exp gains, a standard enough feature, I don't want to wind up at some kind of plateau being mediocre at everything, or really great in one thing but utterly unable to level up other stuff that might be important.

2. Is the Ryzom engine planned to evolve over time, or is it going for the same disasterous course that Asheron's call took, sacrificing the first game when it split off into AC 2, to the detriment of both?

3. How plentiful are skill points. In other words, how badly are uninformed choices early on going to harm me later on?

4. I'm having trouble finding good documentation on stuff like stanzas, where should I look for some?

Hi there! Welcome to Ryzom :D

1. Nope. just do as you please. No penalty apart from more time spent "grinding" or rather learning :)

2. Evolve? What do you mean by that?
I think they will try to make it work "better" over time, if thats what you mean.

3. No problem there. More than enough Skillpionts coming up later.
I know people who´ve got plenty left and have almost everything.
If you make a mistake in buying something, don´t worry. Just buy the right thing next time. And one never knows, so keep the "wrong" one.
I think there isn´t such a thing as a truly "wrong" skill, it all depends on what you want to do.

Look at my Page under tutorials, or here in the Froms, do a froumsearch and you´ll find almost anything :)

And most important of all, don´t let the underpopulated Newbeisle fool you.
There are LOADS of people running around willing to answer any question if just asked nicely. Go to the Mainland ASAP, or as soon as you are familiar with the UI.

Acridiel is right, i levelled dig, fight and craft about on even terms, after ~6 months of playing i have dig (jungle), heal and sword at about q200, ele and HA craft at 160. No problem at all if youre not hungry for master titles.. still a lot to learn and discover :) Still i can participate in boss hunts and other dangerous ventures without having the feeling to be a millstone around my terammates neck (or they are just to polite to tell me lol)
Others have had their first masters title in less than a month i hear - its up to your playing style. One point
more in favor of this game :)

You might find DT's stanza tutorial handy...
Rocci - Elder of Atys - Soldier of Jena
Prime Roots Forager - Medium Armorer

Atys - after the Kami/Karavan war...
