We're Movin' on Up...to the East Side!

Post by cerest »

North American players will be pleased to know the North American server is now in North America! We are pleased to announce, at 10am GMT on Wednesday October 13th, the North American shard Windermeer was successfully migrated from the server farm in London, England to it's new home in New York, U.S.A. The transition went very smooth and with only a couple hours of additional downtime was virtually transparent to the player base. We thank you for your patience during this transfer.

Welcome to your new home Windermeer!

I thought we declared our independence from England a long time ago ;) . Just kidding, but that's great news!

Sweet!

I was afraid we'd soon have a Digital Boston Tea Party if those weren't moved over soon. Imagine the sight...people dumping hundeds of hard drives into the ocean. Frightening. :D

It's nice that the server is in the US now. :)
The only problem is that the lag is worse now then when the server was in London. My ping is fluctuating from 180-900, when the server was in London I got a more consistent ping in the 400-500 rang. I have asked others in game and they seen to be getting the same kind of ping. Is anything being done to reduce the spikes in the ping?

I haven't had any lag since Wednesday and was wondering why. Now I know the answer. Hooray for Independence from the Redcoats!!

Agreed, the ping is more random now than ever....almost as if they are now using a less capable system.

I had though that you had moved the servers, the last couple of days I've been averaging 150-180 ping, instead of the pre move 400ping.

You're not the only one. I actually noticed the same thing (though at a bit higher ping due to my connection). I had a week after that server side "lag fix" patch during which I had no perceivable lag or rubberbanding at all; it was bliss. After the last patch (version 11, I think), my ping skips from 300 up to 1200 seemingly for no reason even when standing still inside the trainer hut. When running outdoors, I get a fair amount of rubberbanding (though nowhere near as much as during the Week of Slow). I suppose this is better suited for tech support, though I don't think it's a problem on my end. My system is utterly unchanged, it's just the ping numbers that are new.
