editing forum profile

please excuse me for being a n00b. I have looked everywhere and cannot see how to edit my profile (add a signature, add an avatar etc). Most message boards have a user CP button or edit profile but I am failing to find one. Can someone please help?

You can either click on the Private Messages link at the top right of the page (if its there... you might have to activate it to make it show up) and navigate from there, or use the dropdown menu at the bottom right of the page when viewing a forum or thread (but not when typing a post) and select "User Control Panel"
