New player saying hello

Hello Ryzomers,

I'm fairly new to the game, started my trial on the 4th of April. Over the last few weeks the game has quickly grown on me for many different reasons, but I would say in essence...

1) So many nice, mature players that didn't turn their back on or made fun of the new guy asking dumb questions.

The game sure was confusing and hard to grasp at first. Something needs to be done about the starter island and texts presented, if one want to attract more players that stick with it through the trial. Quite frankly, I'm very grateful that my friend, that brought me here, told me to leave the island shortly after learning the basic controls and actions. To me there is no point of lingering there at all. Get a few levels, learn the controls and the interface, get the heck out. If I hadn't been told that so clearly and I would have still been there after the trial had run out, I'm not sure if I would have started paying.

2) A game that it very easy to get lost into and spend hours and hours to find out more about.

At a glance this far into the game it seem to have enormous depth, compared to for example World of Warcraft - where the only way to experience something new is to move from area to area. That's not the case here, in my short experience. I learn new things every time I log in and from what my fellow players have told me it's doesn't stop.

3) A world that stand and support roleplaying in a good way.

It's fairly easy to emerge into the world of Ryzom, even with very slight knowledge of it. That is in my opinion, rare. Roleplaying in MMOs are always tricky since it's hard force anyone into a certain style or set of rules. It seems that there are nearly as many styles of roleplay as there are players and so far I've had a good experience. Not nearly as many players that tries to annoy and destroy the experience for roleplayers as for example World of Warcraft. I roleplay strictly and exclusivly in the Around-channel, since the other channels seem a bit Out of Character to me, and so far it has worked alright.

That's three strong points that made me stay in the game. As for some critisim of the game, I'd have to say (besides the starter island) the texts and dialogue in the english version of the game could use some work. Genus seem to be a problem. Him when it should be her and vice versa. Some translations seem a bit off or slightly funny, and I'm no native speaker. The emotes could use an overhaul as well.

I´m not from this Server but its always nice to hear something good from a new player
If you think the english Emotes are "funny" then have a look at the german versions... XD (If you´re able to read them, that is)
Well, the devs are french after all and maybe they wanted us to have a good laugh?

But anyway, if that´s the only thing thats bothering you, what´s the problem??

There has been some discussions about the starter islands in the forums and it has been noticed by Nevrax. They are working on a new single island where all races will start. And they promise to make it more in line with the lore. So it should be better when it arrives

Glad you are here to stay, its a shame you didnt subscribe until a few weeks time because it looks like we are getting a new nooby isle which i hope will be everything the new player needs

A FYI about the chat channels, apparently all homins havea "nano seed" wich allows them to communicate with all other homins, thus the /tell and region channels can actualy be Roleplayed in

Evolution and I am very pleased to have you aboard. The learning curve of Ryzom is like teaching yourself rocket science while blindfolded - but in a good way; you can't really go wrong or end up permanently nerfed.

Channels and keeping IC or OOC separated is always mess here, who hasn't gossiped in /region what was meant to be in /guildchat? I try to be strict and use /around for IC and other channels for OOC, but that keep getting blurred. Guess I'll hear you on the Nano Seed line.
