PvP in ryzom just a few questions
PvP in ryzom just a few questions
In my mmo games I have found that the biggest pull for me is pvp. But not jsut random WoW style oh I get some ranks pvp. I mean pvp that actually can make a difference. Such as that in shadowbane with the mines/town sieges. I have been reading on ryzom some and noticed it talking about the outposts and such. What I am wondering is on the higher up pvp content is there capturable buildings or areas that actually give you some benefit to the point they are worth defending once you capture them. Also is there pvp zones that you have to enter that still have mobs and all just is open to pvp? I am just trying to figure out if the pvp is random and pointless or if organized killing/capturing of points/resources gives you benefit to make it have a good point. Thanks for any info and if you have any extra you would like to throw in about the pros/cons of the pvp please do I am wanting to know all I can to see if this is the game for me because during trial i wont be able to make it high enough to matter.
Re: PvP in ryzom just a few questions
Hello and welcome
For the moment we have Outposts, drills that can be owned by guilds and produces some stuff tha give advantages to the owner.
Spires is not yet implemented PVP-material, a building a faction (or race?) can control and give better stats (or similar) to their side. Looks like a layer of "Risk" is placed on top of the game.
PVP is, as you can see on the forums, quite controversial. The community has long played the game without it. And yes, actions do matter in Ryzom - whether it is RP or PVP or a combination of both (IMHO).

Re: PvP in ryzom just a few questions
At the moment I'd say Outposts are the only point-full... PvP content thats always in game. Spires are on the way and they should have a bit more depth. Other than that, yes... theres the standard few PvP (FvF/GvG) zones (with mobs) and ofcourse the PvP tag system thats now in place.

Re: PvP in ryzom just a few questions
Don't forget Umbra, a guild versus guild region with supernodes of very valuable raw materials. Many season changes and each server reset or patch, the supernodes and bosses respawn, thus leading to a mad dash to dig or kill them. In Umbra, this usually results in some guild or another fighting for digging rights. Sometimes the battle gets very large, but usually stays at around 10-20 people.

Re: PvP in ryzom just a few questions
Since your questions about PvP were fairly well answered here (ask again if you need anything more specific explained), I would just like to let you know that Ryzom is like no other game I have played. Even at "low" levels, you are still "useful" to those you party (group) with. Ryzom isn't the type of game where you have to be max level in order to be helpful.custo wrote:.... because during trial i wont be able to make it high enough to matter.
Granted, during your trial, you probably won't want to get into many pvp skirmishes, but you'll get a good taste of the game so you can make up your mind. The community in this game is awesome (despite a few squabbles on the forums) and there are *always* folks around that will offer a helping hand - just ask!

Re: PvP in ryzom just a few questions

The open system of Ryzom means that you can do anything, regardless of how you start.
I originally started my character as a fighter and crafter, with no plans to do magic, eventually however, i took up magic so i could actually heal people hehe. Then it just spread out from there.
IMO, create the character in the way you wanna initially play on a craft trade/PvE stance i guess, as you grow in power, you can then move your combat levelling to what you feel would be better for you in a PvP stance.

Re: PvP in ryzom just a few questions
Hi and welcome,
I agree with Sinister ; the open system makes you free to start your char in a non-PvP way and just get into PvP when you feel time as come for you to defend your ideas.
Most PvP in Ryzom is quite politically oriented due to Factions (karavaan/kami), so I would advise you to wait until you get to understand the political situation on Atys before you get involved in PvP (OP battles or coming up Spires). Talk to people of all factions and even guilds, for even among a same faction you get guilds that don't share the same views... (forum will prove me right on that one )
Anyway I hope you'll enjoy the game as much as we do, most of Atys' inhabitants (if not all) will be ready to give you more info IG ; just talk to anybody so you can at the same time appreciate the fine community of The Saga of Ryzom.
hope to see you in the wild...

Re: PvP in ryzom just a few questions
Thanks guys this game really is starting to sound pretty awesome with your descriptions. With the current fate of my current pvp game shadowbane unknown at the time this game is looking like a very worthwhile replacement. Especially with the more upcoming additions that will only add to the pvp. Like I said I just can not get into pvp totally centered around just random killing. But with the sound of the mining nodes and outposts this game is exactly what I am wanting. Also the most suprising thing happened last night and I asked another player on starter Isle a question and out of no where a gm messages me and answers all the questions I had even though I was not having a actual game issue besides being a new player. Which makes the initial impressing very very positive of the game. Never have had such good interaction with a game gm when I did not actually need help for technical/bugs. Another thing I am wondering is what is the prime time on the english server arispotle. In relation to central time zone. Thanks again for all the good input the game, community, and gms are really making me think I will be starting a full account soon.
