Chapter 7 A Deadly Weakness

The group received the finest room in all of Min-Cho, the Imperial Room. This room was for traveling homins who had a meeting with the Grand Sage in Zorai. Only two of these rooms were built in each city inns.

The room was the finest in Zorai style, in the very center of the room was a stone disk surrounded by a garden. It was known as the meditation circle, it was used for channeling spiritual energy, a very common object in the Zorai culture. At the opening to the circle was a rug, which had the image of a Zorai warrior cheering with his mace in hand.

Against the right wall were four master beds each made of the finest choice wood. Each head board had the image of two Zorai, one was of two dancing or two under a tree looking at the moon. The mat was nothing truly special just another sleeping mat. The blankets were something else, color several shades were woven together to make these silk blankets, each one the same. The Zorai symbol was in the center and spread out to each corner. Runes made up the rim and the mixture of colors was as if a weaver wove Atys into it.

On the northern and southern walls were cushion, chairs, and tables with an amber light in the center. Upon each wall were paintings, decorative cloths and weapons and a few hanging amber lamps.

By the time Jin’Vena’To, Dak’Cove, and the scout arrived La’Beka, Be’Cona, Ga’Lorda and Sa’Binga were all asleep in the last two beds. Jin’Vena’To and Dak’Cove just smiled as they placed the sleeping Windra and Aqua in the third bed and covered them up with the blanket.

“You two take the last bed we begin watch duty tomorrow night, I’ll see you in the morning.” The Karavan Scout said before we walked into the portal and disappeared.

“Ah I love my life could it get any better, night Dak’Cove sweet dream.” Jin’Vena’To said with a yawn then crawled into bed, Dak’Cove soon followed after he check on everyone.

“Were just tribe members right? I’m Matis and she Tryker it would ever work right? Why do I feel like this around you Jin’Vena’To, could I really love you?” Dak’Cove thought as he starred at the ceiling but he pushed the thoughts back and rolled over and fell asleep.

Duck spread light across the jungle sky as if the light was opening it arms to welcome to new day. Creatures awoke from their slumber as others found a place to sleep until twilight. The dew from the rainy night sparkled like crystals in the light, the jungle became new world, a world beyond words, and just like the LakeLands Min-Cho and all the cities and tribes of the jungle came to life.

“Ah that was a night I’ll never forget, I wonder if all Zorai sleep like this.” Ga’Lorda yawned as he awoke and placed his bare feet on the cool floor.

“Same here if I didn’t have this huge headache, and this tea these is said to cure head pains in minutes taste nasty.” La’Beka said sitting on a cushion in the eating area of the room. He had a cup of a green odd smelling tea in a shell glass.

“You never were much for tea and you were really drunk last night.” Ga’Lorda laughed as he sat down next to La’Beka and took a swig of water.

“Oh shut up!” La’Beka said before he took another sip of tea. Ga’Lorda just laughed.

“You two are weird Trykers you know.” Dak’Cove sighed as he walked in with Jin’Vena’To, Be’Cona and Sa’Binga

Jin’Vena’To, Be’Cona, and Sa’Binga just laughed.

“What happened?” La’Beka asked trying not to think about the taste in his mouth.

“These two had to play a game of Five Yubo at the local bar, in the morning to make it worse.

“What’s so bad about that?” La’Beka asked dreading his next slip of tea.

“Sa’Binga lost his boots and ten drapper to Be’Cona, speaking of that give Sa’Binga his boots back.” Jin’Vena’To laughed as she took a set on one of the table cushions.

“Fine here.” Be’Cona giggled as he handed Sa’Binga back his red boots.

“Aw where are we?” Aqua and Windra asked finally awakening from there deep slumber.

“Morning sleepy heads, you must have been really sleepy cause do did move at all when we laid you two on the bed.

“Sorry about that, Aqua how’s your cold?” Windra asked as he looked for his bandana and goggle.

“Strangely it’s gone and I feel great.” Aqua replied scratching her head.

“I gave you an herbal healing drink before I went to bed.” Dak’Cove said as he fell on to his bed arms spread out.

“Thank you very much Dak’Cove, I owe you one.” Aqua said with a smile. Dak’Cove smiled back.

“Thank Jena I drank it all and my head is starting to feel loads better.” La’Beka said curiously as he looked at the tea leaves at the bottom of the glass.

“Morning all!” Co’Ma’Sean and Co’Ma’Sarn cheered with a grin from ear to ear as they burst through the door.

“For the love of Jena!” Windra, Ga’Lorda, and La’Beka yelled jumping as high as the ceiling.

“What in the name of all things holy!” La’Beka coughed from being shocked will drinking water.

“Ah Sa’Binga could you let go of us.” Jin’Vena’To and Dak’Cove asked with a brow raised when they noticed Sa’Binga was holding on to them like a vine.

“Oh sorry.” Sa’Binga said with a smile as he let go and sat back down on his cushion.

When everyone had calmed down they looked at the doorway to see old friends the thought had die. Instead of being a dead Co’Mo’Sarn and Co’Mo’Sean were laughing so hard they had tears rolling down their cheeks and were holding on to each other for support.

“You’re….You’re alive, never do that again…..You’re alive thank Jena!” Windra boomed with joy as he jumped off the bed and ran to hug Co’Mo’Sarn and Co’Mo’Sean. The others soon followed.

“Hehe it’s so good to see all of you again, thought we were dead ah, well it will take a lot more to kill us then herds of Vorax and Varynx to kill us.” Co’Mo’Sarn and Co’Mo’Sean said now in a group hug with everyone even Jin’Vena’To and Dak’Cove.

“Jin, Dak it’s been ages how have you been?” Co’Mo’Sean asked as he squeezed out of the group hug to see to long time friends.

“We’re been great research has never been better thanks to the help of the Masters of Goo.” Dak’Cove explained to Co’Mo’Sean while Jin’Vena’To hugged him.

“Ok ok that’s enough I need all of you to have a seat I a few things to give and tell you.” Co’Mo’Sarn said as she opened her bag.

Everyone took a seat on a cushion or on a bed in mere moments.

“The Karavan told us that you all know about Aqua’s and Windra’s gift and what this journey really is, oh the Karavan escorts are just fine by the way.” Co’Mo’Sarn explained with a huge smile.

When the guardians hear that the other knew what was going on they took a giant gulp and look at each other then the other’s who just smiled.

“It’s ok Windra we had a feeling from the beginning and this makes this mission even more interesting.” La’Beka said with a smile.

“You’re not afraid.” Aqua asked.

“Oh course we’re afraid but if we die we’ll fall with great honor.” Ga’Lorda said with a smile as he sat next to the guardians to comfort them.

“See it’s no big deal, but back to business, La’Beka, Ga’Lorda, Be’Cona, Sa’Binga all of you are also guardians.” Co’Mo’Sarn said with a grin know what was about to happen.

“What!” They boomed.

“Yup it’s true but your power doesn’t lay in the elements, but instead fighting, range, harvesting, and crafting.

“La’Beka lets start with you, The Warrior Guardian. The first warrior guardian was a Fryos a female to correct and a mighty one she was. She used what she called the Blades of Fire, dagger, swords, pikes and lances were her weapons of choice. Instead of using great force she used magic and swiftness to destroy her enemies and she had a love that may surprise you. It says she fell deeply in love with a Matis warrior who was a master of a heavy sword. They met during a trade and to see if he was a true warrior she dueled him, both were evenly match and neither one to break through the other defense. They dueled till they had no energy then just before they past out they clashed their blades together as a sign of their love and the rest is history. It also says that your late grandfather was a Fryos who married a Tryker and thus the Tryker blood line had begun.” Co’Mo’Sarn told everyone but was thirsty afterwards so Co’Mo’Sean took over the next amber cube.

“Ok Ga’Lorda you’re next and this one is very interesting. The Harvest Guardian started with a Zorai who wandered the jungle in search of answers to life. He believed that there were plants that could heal any wound and any poison but he wasn’t sure where such plants lay. After a year of searching he found a Matis lying in the high grass of a field he was bleeding and was close to death but the Zorai wouldn’t let him, he quick tore his sleeves and wrapped the Matis’s wounds. Late that night the Matis awoke and noticed the sleeping Zorai with no sleeves, he then noticed they covered his wounds. “You saved my life how can I repay you?” The Matis asked his savior but he was in to deep of sleep to answer. Seeing lights near by the Matis knew his was his group, so he left the Zorai a letter instructing him to go to Min-Cho and see a healer known as No-Xen-Ci. He did what the letter said and found a healer called No-Xen-Ci she told him about a trip to Atys depth were he would meet a group of exiles that knew about sacred herbs that have great healing abilities. Here he met a lovely Tryker female who was wise in the ways of harvesting and so the Zorai asked her for help finding these herbs. She knew all about them and where they grew, when she showed them to him he confessed his love for her. She told him she loved him deeply but she was an exile and if he married her he to would become an exile. He told her his love was too great for anyone to get in the way and even if he became an exile as long as he was with her he needed nothing more. So Ga’Lorda you see you have the spirit of a lover within you.” Co’Mo’Sean told him with a smile.

“Ok next amber cube, Be’Cona lets see where your spirit comes from. Huh this is weird.” Co’Mo’Sarn said with a twisted look on her face.

“What is it?” Be’Cona asked leading closer towards Co’Mo’Sarn

“Umm well I just read it. The Range Guardian was really a clan a very small clan, a clan of a Female Zorai, a Male Fryos, and a Female Matis. They were know as the Ice Guns, were symbol was three pistols across each other in front an ice crystal. They were outlaws and had a very big bounty on them. They were looking for a legendry Tryker slave who could craft ammo and guns that shot ice. The slave as own by a very powerful Matis lord and rescuing him would mean their deaths for sure but they didn’t care. So on a dark stormy night when barely anything could be seen they sneaked into his house and took her away while she slept.

They fled to Prime Root knowing their time was up and they made a pact never to kill anyone. So to keep the clan together did a forbidden spell on each other. They did the Co-Ne-Bond spell, in other words the Zorai and the Fryos became one new male Fryos and the Matis and the Tryker became a new Tryker. When the Matis guard found them at their camp in the wooda they told them they were sentenced to death for theft. They just laughed and looked at the guards, the guards were shocked to see just two and they look nothing like the wanted one. The guards left and the bounty was destroyed. Later that year the two married and began the family of master gunners. Wow you young ones couldn’t have normal past live now can you sorry I couldn’t resist.” Co’Mo’Sarn laughed.

Everyone laughed with Co’Mo’Sarn because these were some really odd tales.

“Umm Sa’Binga you don’t have any amber cube.” Co’Mo’Sarn said now worried, there wasn’t another amber cube in the bag.

Ga’Lorda and Sa’Binga just laughed until it hurt to breathe.

“Sorry but of course I don’t have an amber cube you already read it.” The brothers laughed.

Co’Mo’Sarn raised a brow and look toward her husband for help, but he just shook his head.

“We thought you knew..We’re brothers of course!” Sa’Binga and Ga’Lorda cheered.

Co’Mo’Sarn and Co’Mo’Sean fell silent.

Everyone laughed like mad men at this.

“Guardians you’re need outside now.” The voice of a sweet care taker said as she popped her head through the door.

“Ah thank you, umm let’s go Windra.” Aqua said to her brother not sure what just happened.

“Windra Aqua?” Everyone asked but they were already through the portal.

“Good you’re here I’ve been give orders to train you in the ways of Zorai magic, prepare yourselves for heavy meditation.” Zorai mage told the guardians with a stern voice. He was dress in a white plant made robe. It looked just like Dak’Cove lower robe it looked like leaves had been sown together.

He then walked off towards and calm area outside of town to train them. The guardians followed without a word.

“I hope you know how to cast elemental orbs?” The mage told them, he’s was very cold to them as if he hated them.

“Yes any element.” Aqua replied quickly.

“Good cast an electric orb now!” The mage boomed.

The guardians didn’t flinch he wasn’t going to break them, so the cast an electric orb in each hand.

“Well you have some power now don’t you, now what would happen if you let them become close to each other.” He said turning his back to them.

“They will fuse together and become a greater power orb.” Windra replied firmly.

“Good do it now.” The mage said coldly.

Aqua and Windra did as they were told and as the orbs came close the sphere of electricity formed around them and the orbs began to fuse. Without warning the fusion was complete and shot out of their hands and the sphere around them vanished.

“Mage lookout!” The two boomed as the orbs were about to hit him.

He said nothing as the orbs flew right by him. The guardians mouths dropped wide open as the orbs vanished from loss of energy.

“Well done you now know how to cast the electric attack, now I suggest you meditate to understand how you cast that attack.” The mage replied with a less cold voice.

“Yes sir.” The guardians said with a bow before they crossed their legs and began to meditate.

“Maybe we ask what you’re doing to our charges.” Co’Mo’Sarn and Co’Mo’Sean said in a very stern voice.

“Who are you?” The mage asked coldly.

“We’re their bodyguards as we are for the others.” Co’Mo’Sean replied as he rested his pike on his right shoulder.

“You’re our what!?” Aqua and Windra blurted out as they turned to see Co’Mo’Sarn and Co’Mo’Sean and other starring at the mage.

“Return to meditating this is none of your business.” The mage boomed at the guardians.

“Hold your tongue this is to their business.” Dak’Cove yelled back at the mage almost taking a step towards him but Jin’Vena’To stopped him.

“I have been given orders to train these two.” The mage said firmly.

“By whom may we ask?” La’Beka said with a brow raised.

“Windra Aqua step away from him now!” Co’Mo’Sarn told them hand on her dagger.

“Stay!” The mage snarled.

“You’re not with are, no Karavan follower would ever speak to our guardians like that!” Jin’Vena’To boomed beginning to become mad.

“Windra Aqua are you two ok?’ Ga’Lorda asked see the two were shaking.

“Begone!” The mage boomed as he shot an energy ball at Co’Mo’Sarn. It hit her in the chest and sent her flying back against La’Beka.

“You devil!” Jin’Vena’To screamed as she cast a fire ball right at the mages but be counter it and sent a acid ball a Jin’Vena’To. She took it in chest and fell to the ground.

“Dak’Cove! You’ll pay!” Dak’Cove boomed as he shot several daggers at him.

“Stop it!” The guardians boomed turning towards everyone as the ground quaked. The daggers stopped in mid air then fell for some reason.

Everyone stopped, the ground was cracked beneath Windra’s and Aqua’s feet, their voices were dark, and sense of darkness filled the air. Their eyes glowed deep blue and their hair was long and wild. Windra’s hair was half his own height and was wildly dancing in the wind around him, but one long part of his hair was over his right shoulder. Aqua’s hair was a bit longer but still short as usual and her hair clip was still pushing all her hair back but it was moving as if she was under water.

“You, the Kami were right the guardians of Jena will be the death of us all! Die demons!” The Mage boomed as he pulled a sword from his belt as well as a dagger.

Aqua and Windra just dodge his every attack like they were as quick as water or wind. Then with no notice Windra grabbed the mage and pulled him to eye level where he grinned showing a fang.

“What’s the matter mage never faced a demon before, tell me mage what does your blood taste like, bitter or sweet, let’s find out shall we!” Windra laughed in a demonic voice that chilled everyone to the bone.

“Gawh what is that horrible sound, the sound of mediation makes me sick, hurry and kill him Wind Demon those homins meditatiing are making me sick.” Aqua told the former Windra as she flicked her hair.

“Windra Aqua stop this now remember who are you, don’t let the evil control you!” Co’Mo’Sean yelled as he rolled a scroll with the same strange symbols from the guardians dream. They formed two banes, each for one guardian it was the guardians dream all over again.

They just laughed at Co’Mo’Sean pitiful attempted to stop them. Co’Mo’Sean quick chanted and slammed his hand onto the scroll. The symbols then started to glow and flew off the parchment and wrapped around the two guardians. With that Windra let go of the mage, the second he was free the mage moved out of reach, and the grins left their faces. Their eyes returned to their normal deep blue, hair retuned to its original length, when they were completely back to normal they fell to their knee’s and began to cough.

“Windra, Aqua!” The Trykers yelled but Co’Mo’Sean held out his pike to stop them.

“Go get a healer now and bring the guards we have a Zorai traitor!” Co’Mo’Sean barked.

Ga’Lorda and Sa’Binga ran to the city to get a healer and the guards, while Be’Cona looked after the injured ones. Dak’Cove quickly rooted the traitor before he could get away.

“What happened to them, gah guardians!” Dak’Cove yelled almost rushing towards the guardians seeing them faint.

“They’re fine just out of energy and as for what happened I’ll tell you later for now keep your energy on your root spell.” Co’Mo’Sean replied firmly not loosening his grip on his pike or looking at anything else but Windra and Aqua.

“What’s the problem these young ones said we have a traitor and members of your team were in need of a healer.” A guard asked while he and the other four walked over the fallen ones.

“Your mage was going to kill our friend there.” Co’Mo’Sean replied pointing his pike at the mage then at the guardians.

“Xe, Nac take him Cem, Qib heal the fallen ones, and I’ll talk with their leader.” The guard told the other.

“Sir!” The other guards replied quickly and firmly.

“Tell me what about the traitor?” The guard asked Co’Mo’Sean

“He pretended to be a Zorai mage trainer and trick the inn keepers into letting our guardians see him. In truth he was going to kill them when they were deep in meditation, if you look at his right arm you’ll see a bandit tattoo. Oddly he clamed to me a follower of the Kami, but I know now the Kami don’t just kill it’s not their way.” Co’Mo’Sean explained to the guard.

“Hmm this is odd, what do you want done with the fallen ones.” The guard asked Co’Mo’Sean still not fully understanding what was just happened.

“Take them to the inn and I mean everyone I’ll take care of these two, I want no one around, got it.” Co’Mo’Sean said firmly as he walked towards the guardians.

“Take the traitor the chief he’ll know what to do, Cem, Qib were taking everyone to the inn to rest, follow me the inn keepers will shows us their room. “ The guard instructed the other as he lighted La’Beka and set off towards the inn.

With out asking why Ga’Lorda, Sa’Binga, and Be’Cona followed the guards to the inn even tho they wanted to stay and help Windra and Aqua.

“I don’t understand why did you let the demons take control of you? The pendants should have stopped this but your demon took control and made you thirst for blood and death. I guess we need to see a Zorai elder when you arrive in Zorai.” Co’Mo’Sean wondered as he pick them up one at a time as rested them on his shoulder.

“We care for all of you to much, we promised the Karavan and Ma’Darrel to protect all of you. Heh you all are cute, so young, so trusting, I think my wife truly thinks all of you as her kin. Maybe when this is all over we will become a whole family, but first let’s stop this merciless evil.” Co’Mo’Sean told the sleeping guardians as he walked the high sun light path. Leaving the vine filled meadow behind and hope what happened there never to happen again.
