Well seeing as people are already dragging in quotes and junk from other closed threads just to start up the same old arguments and stir it up, might I ask that when the final "Thread closed" post comes along it includes some input from the GMs/Nevrax, whoever... on the subject of multipul attacks and false declarations.
I asked a very long time ago about this issue because I was annoyed at sitting at an outpost for almost 2hours just incase somebody showed up...
I'm not so bothered about multi attacks, I can understand how that could been seen as a tactic. Its false declarations that are just designed to time waste that annoy me.

Diversionary declarations could be viewed as Tactic by a legit guild, but if no-one shows up hmmmm can also waste alot of peoples game time and could therefore also be viewed as Greifing.

& yeah, what he said... false guilds.... *SPIT*

It's gone already Spriteh, and I think you're just trying to be optimistic - you know the score, you've been here long enough :( I see it in every thread that discusses mechanics in any way, I see it in the threads where you and Kost are arguing about OOC comments - I see it in lots of places I wouldn't expect to, based on my history with this community. I see people who used to be civil to each other, arguing over the pettiest of points - because there just doesn't seem to be anything else to discuss. Also because game mechanics have moved the less thoughful members to the forefront of dicussion, even if their contribution is a one-liner "loooool" which translates to "I have nothing to say about this, but I have to say something stupid". I see threads where people misunderstand mechanics, and other people who used to be 'pillars of the community' reply with sarcastic "I can't believe" posts, when 12 months ago they would have been full of smilies, understanding, and polite correction.

I came back here more for the community and discussions than the game itself, and I guess I should have delved deeper before re-activating my sub. Alibooma's "where are they now" thread made me nostalgic, but that nostalgia soon wore off. So much so, that I didn't even bother with the R2 application - even though I'd still love to see it. People like Ali hardly post now - that's because of the tone of new threads, and the subjects being discussed. It's sad to think that some of the best and most valuable members of this community are stifled, purely because they cannot fit into current discussions - sorry, "arguing".

No single mechanic or player is to blame for this, but I think the more critical amongst us can see where and why this kind of thing begins. It's as much about psychology and understanding as it is about mechanics, and for that reason the problem cannot be discussed without argument. I damn the day that MMOs made the jump from Cooperative to Competitive, for that was the day the genre started to rot. That was the day that people who cannot be cooperative without being competitive got their chance to step in, and their chance to contribute to opinion. This is the result.

The point is, we dontk now if their real or not... We cant exactly ask them "hey, do you really plan on attacking today or are ya just messing around?" >_>
(That asuming we even know which cowardly person(s) to ask - These guilds are often made up)

Well, I do have an opinion of the three letter acronym that could be the root of the problem, but of course, I have no specific reason to belive that. But I think we agree the community has deteriorate and the forum mood as well and it seems to be caused by competitive activities rather than cooperative...

Don't get me wrong, it's not the acronym "per se", it's the acronym plus the "Massive <g> Multiplayer" aspect and the diversity of players...

it's quite amusing you come to this thread to flame, and yet are talking about how the community has gone downhill!

As has always been the case, and will always be the case there are a vocal minority of people who talk it up on the forums, a lot of our younger members know nothing of self restraint either on the forums or ingame.

I actually find your comments offensive - you come back to a game and tell all of us how horrible we are, how the community is ruined. That isnt a nice thing to do, if you are so appauled then why not go do something else and not write crap here? FYI my group of friends in Ryzom are just as nice, friendly and fun to be with as they have always been, I and pretty much everyone else still drop everything to help people out, or spend entire evenings chatting with newbies or whatever.

so lets try this concept: if you dont have anything constructive to say, try not to say anything.

i agree with rushin, as usual.

if the community has died why are you still here whinging about it.

you cant 'blame the community' when someone disagrees with you, or wants to play in a different way from how you want to play. There was always going to be posters who are less eloquent than others and open themselves to a degree of flaming and minsinterpretation, but this games open to all ages so i dont see the problem as long as its reasonably civil.

the ONLY people killing this game are the ones who CONSTANTLY whinge about one thing or another, in one form or another. MOANING about the 'state of the community' is just trash talk for the general consensus being against YOUR views.

this entire discussions managed to flow across 2 or 3 closed threads now lol - and it basically comes down to this - u own and op - its been challenged - tough

I was avoiding mentioning it, since it always causes another argument. In one sense it IS the root cause of the problem, because it brings/introduces/attracts exactly the people a community doesn't need. Competition is the key - most of us can enjoy healthy competition win or lose, others simply cannot compete without exposing their ugly side, and their seeming lack of logic or intelligence. For some people competition is a real battle, automatically flicking a switch to "idiot mode", losing all respect for people that really should be friends, and fuelling the flames by being derisive, insulting and generally confontational for the sake of it. These are the people attached to PvP, and I really wish they weren't affected by the Earth's gravity. They also help to bring the tone so low, that not even thoughtful, friendly PvPers can get their point across without being "tarred with the same brush" - there definitely are quality PvP players, they are just a tiny minority.

Basically, welcoming "the PvP masses" into your community is like drinking with the people who go the pub just to fight. You're sat with them for 3 hours, and absolutely everything they say is inane, badly thought out, and based wholly around the fact that anyone who *doesn't* go to the pub to fight is soft, weak, stupid. Their perspective is skewed and always extends from their own point of view - it is rarely a 2-sided argument in which the opposing side maybe, just maybe comes out on top. Any attempt to analyse and justify their actions is a "misunderstanding". PvP is an easy version of this scenario - nobody is within striking distance, where they could inflict genuine pain. Everyone is just a chat message away - a license to insult and inflame. It allows these people to compete as fiercely and dirtily as possible, with little or no consequence or thought for other people's feelings.

And the funniest thing about a PvP vs PvP argument (between two PvP-heavy players), is that it usually comes down to one of them having an "unfair advantage" in the eyes of the other :) If they're not arguing that "us lot" are a bunch of weaklings, they're complaining that someone took away their big disadvantage and unfairly levelled the playing field which *they perceived* was previously balanced. Pitiful.

EDIT: Rushin, either you just wanted to hit me up for my post, or you didn't read it. Nowhere did I say "the whole community", in fact nowhere did I use the word "horrible" or "horrid". You know I'm talking about a subset of PvP players - so why post that?

AMEN to that! Yes I absolutely agree about all those moanings and pointless discusions- if you don't like the game pls pack your toys and leave to another one but stop killing our pleasure of play. Our Guild is not aggresive type, we help, work and socialise with all nice homins no matter faction, race ect.- but we area also Karavans by choice and we try to play the game in a way that it was designed. And trust me mates- if you lost your faith in community thats simply means you crossed the line and the hight time for you to go away.
