The sun would then still move backwards and forwards across the sky, unless somehow the sun or Atys was changing speed to maintain synchronicity :)

No, some random Kami-loving Fyros created firewine. :p

Oh, I like the mirror idea... Perhaps, it is something artificial. I will have to observe some more and see what other ideas I can come up with, or find further support for one of those ideas mentioned. Thank you all for the input. Please let me know if you find any other expainations for features of Atys or questions we who enjoy pondering might enjoy trying to answer.

As part of my own preconceptions about how the universe works.. if there is something (naked eye) visible in the sky with a ring around it, we are going to be in orbit around that... obviously not in the same plane, but a ring system would not survive on a secondary body.

Are you claiming Saturn doesn't exist?
The sun would then still move backwards and forwards across the sky, unless somehow the sun or Atys was changing speed to maintain synchronicity
Oh yeah.... angular velocity isn't constant, it is something like the cross product of the angular momentum with the radius..... or something.
Damn, I really thought I had a thing there......

Just one thing: Has someone does some serious astronomical observation and concluded that the sun actually does stand still? Maybe it wobbles a little?

Saturn is a primary planetry body.

I think the formula is T^3=R^2 or something simular. A body crosses the same area of its orbit in equal periods, in other words Areal velocity being constant. Think thats Kepler's 2nd law.

I really prefer this one. Not only does it cover the astronomical questions but it answers lore that has always puzzled me, that is the question of how and why the Dragon hid the sun. Turning off a star always seemed a bit difficult difficult to do and hard to explain the motivation ... but shutting off the artificial Atysian energy source? Perhaps the Dragon was shutting down an experiment gone awry (or an alien experiment) in preparation for a human-friendly initial condition restart?
After leading them to Atys, the Dragon endeavored to extinguish the sunlight there and in the cold and dark reduce the homins to slavery.
or
The Great Dragon ... led them to the promised land of Atys, where he hid the sun, plunging the planet into cold and darkness ... (Jena) heard of the perfidy of the Dragon and filled him with an eternal fire. That way, the dragon could no longer maintain a cold climate and extinguish the light of life. The Goddess then caused the light to be reborn, causing the green to grow and transforming Atys into an amazing planet of plants ...
So Jena is a plant-lover too. :D

Oh, the Sun could easily be hidden. Nuclear Winter anyone? Or the Matirx "Winter Effeckt"?
And in the light of Jessicas "Spoiler" on GiGa TV, "Jena" fired the "Terraforming-Bombs" that got out of controll and "causing the green to grow and transforming Atys into an amazing planet of plants ..."

Yes, I have done quite a bit of astronomy...sitting for days and watching the sky, I did so before coming up with any theories. The sun does not appear to wobble, but as I said, it may just be too slow or too fast or even to slight to be noticed by the homin eye.

After reading the theories of others, I am leaning toward the idea that we are orbiting the planet with rings, or that we are orbiting a common center of gravity, and the "sun", the sole life giver in the system, is in geosyncronous orbit over Atys. There may very well be one on the other side of Atys. Especially, if this is a botony experiment on a planetary scale. That would explain why the "planets" are always reflecting light, even when the "sun" is turned off for the night.

I also agree that the "nebula" is something within the system...It moves too much against the stationary stars not to be. Perhaps it is the Kami entity of energy.

One thing we know, we and the Kami can exist comfortably on Atys, the Karavan cannot. So whos image are we really made in... at least physiologically? [To explain what I mean, I would consider humans and gophers that are both carbon based and need liquid water and oxygen to survive to be made more in each other image than a human looking organism that breathes methane and has a structure build upon sulfur. Obviously, the atmosphere of Atys is comfortable to us and anathemic to the Karavan, so...]
