What is Ryzom about?

Ive tried to find the answer on this board but with no luck.
What things are there to do in Ryzom. I mean sure you can grind XP or craft items. But what I dont feel is any direction in the game. Are there any collective goals and such. As it is now It just feels like killing time (not in a bad way).
So if you have any well written "guides" for noob i´ll be more than grateful to read them.
Btw, I have only played the game for 2 days so its not that strange that I´m completely lost.

There will always seem some element of "Grind" its like life experience not a Have it all situation but you will soon develop some personal goals which will take the edge of that. Also if somthing does start to feel like work, do somthing else for abit, one of the biggest plusses in SoR is you are not railroaded into one direction.

If you are struggling to find meaning and reasoning behind it all take some time to read some of the Lore sections linked from the frontpage as this puts alot of flesh on the bones of what you see and hear going on around you.

Really long term goals:

The Prophecy
Before the Great Dragon dies he will rise again to expulse all the fire from his body so causing the end of Atys. Those remaining faithful to the teachings of Jena and residing on the surface of Atys shall be rescued and shepherded to a new world of plenty.

Above is of course from the Karavan, while the Kami's goal is to maintain the planet, clean out the Goo and such.

This has more or less impact on us here on Atys. But learning how to safely travel through the woods, where to find excellent amber, how to combine materials to get the best results is what the lives are about. Recognizing patterns. And recently, overtaking and keeping one or more outposts.

We've been asking ourselves this too in TS some time ago. Here's a link where some of our friends and some guidlies tried to describe what they found out.


In my opinion though... if you can't find what to do yet in game, then the problem lies somewhere else... either you need to read a bit the story and see what's happening on this planet, or you miss a good friends group (as it is very little a solo game and only for those who enjoy exploring), or you think at it like a neverending levelling on the presumption that only at master you can do things (this is a mentality other games encourage and I find it sometimes imported by the newcommers here - where it does not function), or you lack a community to work for/with, or you socialise too little so real veterans have no chance to share with you what they found out during their own playign time... in short it's less a problem of the game but of attitude and/or context.

I think what Leonin means is what Crythos said - our purpose on Atys. The answer to that is found in the Lore, which says that we're returning to the lands of our forefathers to try to rebuild anew the civilisations that they fled in the face of the Kitin Swarm. As regards what we can actually do ingame to achieve that - practically nothing. The only step we have been allowed to take so far is to recover some 28 outposts and build drills on them. We can't build any more yet and no doubt as soon as we can, that will effectively be accomplished within 15 minutes.

Well, I for myself enjoy RPing more than lvling and grinding.
ATM I´m digging for myself an for fellow Noob-Crafters in my Guild, so we can build our own wapons supply someday. But that´s just a sideffect.
We´re trying to establish ourselves as a renowned RP Guild and nice guys to play with
That´s our "long term" goal for SoR.

Ah, the days of arriving in Coronet, and battling through 56,745 automated speech bubbles Ahem...

I'm not sure about Avian meat, but I can kind of guess (I only played for 3 months, and was always on the receiving end of buffs ) Amber is an important resource on Atys, and is used (amongst other things) in the crafting of Magic Amplifiers - a requirement for effective magic casting. We Zorai probably make the heaviest use of Amber outside of crafting, using it for a wide range of decorations.

In conversation, Amber is used often with 'in character' comments - along with terms like Firewine, Stinga Rum, and Tryker Rainbow Weed, you'll get used to these little references that are unique to Atys (I highly recommend the Tryker Rainbow Weed - it makes you feel all http://ryzom.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif and and at the same time )

How you want to contribute to the world of Atys is totally up to you. Fumble about for a few eeks trying all kinds of things. You will find what you enjoy, or what you find as your purpose.

I could see some folks go as far as doing missions to serve whomever the missions fulfill, and pulling others into doing those missions, even though most don't even think about doing missions for anything more than the fame adjustments.

You will find your place, eventually. Atys doesn't tell you what to do, which is very different for most people.

In a nutshell there are 2 things to guide you in SoR...

1. Decide what you want to be when you grow up, and do/be it.

2. Serve Jena to the utmost best of your abilities.
