The big-ish Issue..

Post by ffxjosh »

OK, so its been some time since PvP was taken up a notch or 20 (depending on who you are) Ive put this thread up to see what people think about it!

Would be nice what people think in general about it. I mean alot was said about it before it was implimented, but not really much has been said about likes/dislikes and whether or not you as a player prefer it this way :)

I don't PvP myself (except in events like ep2 and outposts occasionally) but I think that its improved the game overall. Its added more to the storyline, added extra content to the game, more oppertunities to roleplay and has expanded the appeal of ryzom to a wider audience.

I voted "no, ryzom feels different, but i can tolorate it"

Mainly because I am not a big PvP player, I don't mind it but its not the sole reason I log into the game. On the other hand I have the maturity to understand why others in the game would like a PvP element.

They way I generally look at it is that I can log into the game and still do today what I did 6 months ago. OK I have a few more choices now that would enable me to do more if I wanted and thats my choice.

My gameplay today is unaffected pretty much by the PvP element so I am happy and if I want to join in I can........

The day it does affect my gameplay, well thats a different scenario...............

Voted "ryzom feels different now...."
I really enjoyed lasts OP battles (even some other were pissed off) cause it s structured and was played kindly from both parts , attack and defence, even if the issue was known before the war started.
On the other side i think open pvp incoming with faction tag is a bad thing and i dont expect anything good about the sbires thingy.
I think you should have separate the 2 kind of pvp cause ou can enjoy one and dont the other :P

Oh, well then... you didn't specify intellectual! ;)

If the PvP is considered on its own without any context then I am indifferent. I am not anti-PvP, but I am also not PvP for the sake of PvP. When I came to Ryzom last summer I was intrigued by the Outposts concept and the possibility of meaningful PvP for control of land and resources, and while I think that there are many things that can be improved about Outposts, I believe that if they had been introduced without the FvF then the situation would be very different.

As it stands, though, it is neither possible nor advantageous to ignore the greater context. I voted that Ryzom is less fun for me now than it was before the big PvP/FvF implementation. This is not so much due to the PvP itself, but rather due to the poor FvF implementation, the OOC hostilities that it engendered and the loss of so many friends. Atys (including these forums) is a much quieter place now than it used to be, and that makes it less fun for me. It doesn't take a genius to see that Nevrax is scrambling to try to recover some of those lost subscriptions, and anything that endangers this wonderful world reduces my fun.

I believe that there is a place for PvP on Atys. I don't believe that global faction war is the place for it.

I put "indifferent".

I like PvP, I think its a great option, it can provide the biggest challenges, the best enemies and the greatest victories or losses.

But I dont like making PvP necesary to enjoy new content (OPs).

I don't like losing friends who leave over PvP.

If there were non-PvP OPs that provided the same benefits as our current OP I would lobby my guildmates to abandon the current one in favour of the non-PvP one. And I think we would go for it as a guild. However, without that option we put up with the possibility of having our stuff nicked by opportunist attackers. *shrugs*.

PvP is fun, PvP for such a huge advantage as crystals or OP mats turns into an arms race.

Overall.. the loss of friends who left because they didnt want to have to PvP for new stuff outweighs any other consideration. I think Ryzom is a sadder place as a result.

Aardnebb, has the OP's any content BESIDES pvp (or gvg)? Leveling the character at double speed isn't exactly content. But getting and keeping the OP might be, and from my point of view it doesn't even have to be violent.

Voted "provides opportunities".

voted "can tolerate it".
As a neutral I am exempt from all the tag on/tag off silliness and disputes about ganking etc, and can participate in OP battles where the conflict theoretically has some significance... but before I came to Ryzom I used to play shooters, and if I want a good PvP fight I would be playing Desert Combat or whatever has displaced it. Being of different alignment to the majority of my guild causes a great deal of inconvenience, and spires will only compound the issues.
PvP may be good for some players, but it has cost the game a lot of its finest members too, and I cant help thinking a softer approach might have kept them in the game longer.
