I recently reactivated after a year long break from Ryzom. During my break I explored a couple of other (virtual) worlds. My appreciation for the exceptionally excellent Ryzom community has grown over time. It seems to me that the outposts may be a source of division and resentment as much as a source of pleasure. We are often misled into believing that strength is best demonstrated by dominating something or someone. We sometimes forget that strength can also be found in kindness, respect, and humility.
As alternative tests of strength, I propose the following challenges to the homins of Atys:
1) To the power guilds (Kami/Karavan/Neutral) who hold the most coveted resources of Atys:
Demonstrate your strength by surrendering possession of your outpost for one month to a guild of the opposing faction. Surrender it to one that has not been able to enjoy the benefits of that level of outpost. In doing so, you will demonstrate to the citizens of Atys that your strength is rooted not only in your numbers, levels, and materials, but also in something nobler. For neutrals, surrender possession to whomever you find worthy (or unworthy).
2) To any guild receiving such an offer:
Demonstrate your strength by setting aside your pride if your pride prevents you from honoring an offer because it is from a perceived enemy. At the end of the month, your strength will be demonstrated by honoring your pledge to return the outpost.
3) To the Citizens of Atys:
If a pledge to return an outpost is broken, demonstrate your strength by setting aside your factional loyalties to administer justice as appropriate.
Of course if swords must be crossed to make the exchanges of possession honorable, then acceptable terms can be agreed to beforehand.
(If this was already discussed in another thread, my apologies, I haven't read all the threads).

Re: Proposal for New Tests of Strength
I would be strangely comfortable with the idea if I knew it wouldn't concern the OP my guild has.

would entail too much more trust than i think our current community has.
we can't even agree on stopping spawn killing.

I wish everybody would stop reffering to that nice community we're supposed to have but as the germans say: "das war einmal." The people that made this community have either left or withdrawn into the warm seclusion of their guilds.
In case anyone is wondering where the heck I am: I'm playing L2 atm atleast the bots can be trusted not to stab you in the back when you're njot paying attention....
p.s. If I sound bitter, guess what?
I am...
after the addition of some nice non-content (OP's) all we have to look forward to now is... more non-content (spires) and *oh joy* player made content (R2). Maybe I'll be back before R2 but don't hold your breath

And I wish bitter ex-players that just want to complain about the game, would choose not to. If you've got something new or constructive to add to the conversation, please do. But otherwise, what's the point?michielb wrote:I wish everybody...

Your right, just because I'm still paying my sub doesn't mean I can complain...oldmess wrote:And I wish bitter ex-players that just want to complain about the game, would choose not to. Re: Proposal for New Tests of Strength
You misread my message. I didn't say you couldn't complain. I said that I wished you would choose otherwise. This thread is about whether OP holders should consider Musmus suggestion (I don't see how it fits into the story or in character, so I vote no, for what it's worth). And your response is that this community stinks, Nevrax stinks and you're bitter. Great. You're totally free to say that. But why? What's the point except to make yourself angrier and distract this thread into negative direction?michielb wrote:Your right, just because I'm still paying my sub doesn't mean I can complain...
Just because you can do a thing, doesn't mean you should do a thing.

You're right I should put my money where my mouth is and quit whining, so I will no longer go off topic in this thread.oldmess wrote:Just because you can do a thing, doesn't mean you should do a thing.
