Would this be able to run the game?

I am interested in trying to run this game but want to know if my laptop would be able to handle it.

Well, I don't know the specific graphic card (i.e. the 420 GO part of it, a normal GeForce 4 would be fine) thus I cannot comment on that. I play the game on a P4 1.7 Ghz, 512 Mb, GeForce FX 5200, Windows Xp thus it's possible - however you won't have great performance and the game will be very choppy, especially in the towns of the mainland.

Be aware that your (and my) machine specification is the absolute minimum to run the game.

Note that the game needs a minimum of 64Mb graphic memory, 5GB free harddisk and needs at a minimum a 1024x768 screen resolution.

I have just added another 512 ram to my system and it has made a lot of difference, practically no hard drive grinding now

Easily on low graphic settings, perhaps even on higher ones.

Equivalent graphic chipsets tend to be a bit slower on laptops, but I played with a Geforce 2MX and Geforce 4MX and it was definitely playable on low visual settings.

On the flip side, I upgraded to a Radeon 9700 Pro 128 and found I couldn't really increase the visual settings to medium. Could be I'm CPU limited, but it would be a hassle to test.

I played the Beta with a P3 933, 1024 MB RAM and Geforce 2 GTS. Was a bit choppy but at low gfx settings it was playable.

I have upgraded my system now (2.8 GHZ cpu, but degraded the RAM amount) and running the game with high gfx settings (better Gfx-card too), but the laggyness/choppyness still appears when the game is caching the environment (I have 512 MB RAM now). Swapping makes the game run less smooth.

My experience with this game is its highly dependent on CPU power and RAM amount.

It seems that 1 Gb RAM makes a world of difference with most mmorpgs these days - both recent and certainly the vast majority of the upcoming ones (those that have not been cancelled ).

Even if you have a processor and a graphics card that are starting to be a bit (too) dated, you might still get pretty smooth performance (at low to medium settings) if you can muster the one gig of RAM.
On the other hand even otherwise fast systems may suffer tremendously with "only" 512 Mb RAM - there is simply so much constant loading of textures etc. going on in mmorpgs that less memory takes a heavy toll on the harddisk, usually causing a significant case of stuttering of course.

Upgrading from 512 Mb to 1 Gb can mean the difference between a game grinding to a complete halt for 30 seconds or more when entering crowded areas (SWG anyone? ), and on the other hand pretty smooth sailing. Not quite that bad in Ryzom though from what I hear .

Well after upgrading my graphics card with no perceptible change, I upped my CPU from a 1700+ to a 2100+ Athlon and found... no perceptible change.

Having only 2 RAM slots each filled w/256MB DIMMs, my only upgrade choice left would be to buy 2 new 512MB DIMMs. At $160US+, I'm a little hesitant to waste any more money.
