There is one more point I would like to make, Mioette. I could have just as easily become a member of Samsara, Evolution, Red Ribbon Army or any of the other Tryker guilds (I believe I was approached by all of them...yes, even the Samsara...in my first 2 days). This was the point of my original post here: I went with the guild that made me feel most welcomed and like more than just "another newb to increase their numbers with". Again, I mean no offense, but a guild recruiter comes up to someone they have never met and the first thing they say after "hello" is: "Wanna join my guild?"...my first inclination is "no". The impression I get from such behavior is that the guild is more interested in quantity, and not quality.

When I was approached by Spiff (a Tryker), I was getting my rear-end handed to me by a Clopper (lol) and he healed me and we began talking. As I said, we talked about the Lore and about Jena, about the lakelands and about Trykers. His first words were not: "Wanna join my guild?". We had fun, and a bond grew - it was later that day when I joined OmegaV.

I am sure that if everyone (everyone!) read what you had to write things would change for the better. More new people would see this great community of ours if it was great! More people would want to play the game, because they feel welcomed. More people would want to see what will happen because of a simple "Hi, how you doing today?" or, even better "Could I help you with anything?".

I'll be the first to throw up my hands and say how rubbish I am at doing this. I am glad that there are people out there actively seeking out the secruity of this game. If the karavan guilds are doing anything right, it's keeping this game alive at this moment in time.

We might not all agree on every issue. PvP will always be a hot topic of discussion (and need I say it, without Jyudas's posts a bit one sided too - but that's for other topics). However, there are some things that the "karavan side" is doing better than the "kami side".

It is time for the kami to pay attention to what new players are saying is wrong. Change your recruiting strategies to take these points into account. You can't just point and click "join guild" - you have to actually have the person your trying to recruit want to join you.

While Spiffs view of the Lore can be contested, his methods in recruiting can not! They are working. You are being told why they are working, and why the other ways don't.

Ending thought for everyone: Pay attention to these players - they are the guys who will shape the future of atys when we all leave. I, for one, am listening closely to these conversations!

I honestly do not wish to argue with you, Groom - but I would like to ask how you seek out those "crazy homins that can stand for their own acts". I have had two Tryker chars, and both were invited to join Evolution right after "hello". How could they possibly know what kind of "person" I am when they don't take the time to get to know me first?

I truely mean no disrespect to you, nor to Evolution, when I say this. Perhaps you are unaware that you have members that are...what I call..."blindly recruiting". I also did not mean to imply that Evolution (or any of the guilds I mentioned) only recruit for quantity. I said *I* get that impression when I see "blind recruiting" - it does not mean my impression is correct.


I would also like to add that this is the first MMO I have played that had sooooo many players willing to help new players....well, at least in the Tryker and Matis communities, lol. I've already said what happened while I was in Pyr, and I have no knowledge whatsoever on what goes on in Zora.

We all need to remind ourselves that Kami vs. Karavan is not the only facet of this game. It is only a small part of it. If you need help in this game, there is always someone around that will offer it. When I see a homin laying by the side of the road, I don't look at his/her guild tag to see if they are Kara or Kami...I just rez them. Just the same as when I'm out digging, blow myself up and ask for a rez in Regional - no one answers with "are you kami or kara?", instead it's "how much time left?".

There are many, many things in Atys that make my virtual time very enjoyable. With (mostly) mature discussions like this one, we...the players...can only make it better. OPB's and all this is still pretty new - I think we can pretty much all agree there are some issues that need working on (we just may not always agree on what those issues are, lol). But eventually, through all the disagreements, bashing, spamming, and edits by SoulSnatcher (hehe)...sooner or later will mash out a good plan and maybe the devs will agree it fits in with *their* vision.

One last thing, then it's off to beddy-by for me...

reading your posts it could suggest that there are more helpfull players on karavan side than kami. i really doubt that this has something to do with the faction, more i belive it's some simple maths: assuming that a certain % of the community is very helpfull to new players, if there are 20 players in yrkanis and 5 players in pyr, where you got the higher chance to meet a helpfull player? (and also the higher chance to see bad recruiting).

We are waaaay off outposts at this point, but I though maybe I would post this anyways. It seems to me that most players in Matis call Yrkanis home, not only Yrkanis, but the first 100 meters into Yrkanis. This is where all the new players show up and spend their time at the merchants, stable, trainers.

I believe the same happens in Tryker with most of the homins there calling Fairhaven home. I have no clue about Zorai as I don't get there often, but I do think in Fyros, the high level players move all their stuff to Dyron. This would make it pretty desolate around Pyr.

Just trying to help figure it out.

The trouble with that is its a different Region , in Matis / Tryker / Zorai it doesnt matter which town youre in (same chat Region for all)

Zorai used to be similar because the towns are all situated near Region borders so players dont spend alot of time in that Region before they are back out of Region lvling up Forage/Fight/Mage etc

Matis n Tryker youd be in the lowbie chat Region for quite some time as it would take 5-10 mins to Walk/Swim out of Region -not the same these days with the increased use/availability of TP Pacts but old habits die hard n ppl are still more likely to hang around in FH n Yrk

Experience may also differ because of time zone , I believe Matis/Tryker have a higher proportion of US players than Fyros/Zoria which tend to be mainly Euro based ? -could be this is another out of date assumption

I believe the original divide in Race preference came from the Beta stages where US played Matis n Euro played Fyros in the later stages , on release alot of players went with what they knew best (maybe someone whos worked out how the hell we make polls on this forum could do one on that ? lol)

I went Zorai cos they are just cool and I wanted to play them even before getting ingame (that was also the First char I played in Beta tho so maybe thats the real deciding factor)

Actually it was neither an anti-Matis or anti-OV point - it was a general point about recruiting. I've seen Kami guilds doing mass recruitment before now, and I've heard complaints from other Trykers about a small number of guilds hoovering up the refugees. If OV are actually very careful about who they recruit, and try to point refugees to the guild and faction that will suit them best, I would have no argument with them.

I can sorta spin your original words so they don't come out as anti-OV if I ignore the context of your reply, but the anti-Matis part stands:

And obvious example?!? You didn't have enough info at that point for it to be an example of anything. How did her description of finding a guild she liked after rejecting the more eager guilds turn into an obvious example of Matis/Kara guilds behaving badly in your mind? That sure sounds like an anti-Matis/Kara bias coloring your perceptions and words.

It's that part of your post that woke me up at all; you've done this in responses to me in the past. You talk of the Matis treating us as 2nd class citizens based on your bias and ancient events and I talk of being treated as a valued ally and friend based on personal experience.
