Exploiter Extraodinaire (me) Cerest please respond.

Post by lucasd »

Sent a message to a Gm (Takashi) today because I am in a fix. My death penalty is now at 1.5 million and my highest skill is Prime roots foraging which is at 150 something. My next highest skill is a meager 60. I was able to reach 150 in prime roots foraging because I leveled it before the patch when they added the guards and patrols. Now however, it is impossible for me to forage in the roots without dieing after a pull or two, and today they even added more kitin to increase the difficulty further. I spent 2 hours trying to work off my death penalty and at the end of this span had only increased it, this is not fun. Due to the way death penalty works, I gain a multiplier to my experience points based on the level of the skill I use, so if I use PR forage, I gain 45000 death points for 3k experience points, and about 8000 if I use another skill. Consider a minute to gain 8k using another skill, which is probably less time than it actually takes, and it will take me over 3 hours to work off this death penalty, if I am able to keep up that pace for that long uninterrupted.
So thats what I submitted to the Gm. His response was that by leveling my prime roots forage I had "Intentionally exploited a gameplay mechanic thus rendering my character unplayable." Not just exploited, but "Intentionally exploited." I cannot describe how angry this makes me. Because of a lack of foresight regarding the difficulty of entrance to the prime roots, despite numerous weeks of beta testing, I am exploiting by entering an area that was made available to me and using a skill that is part of the game. And for that, by his own words, my character is rendered unplayable. If Cerest or any other member of Nevraux reads this, please explain this to me because I cannot begin to understand the logic here. At the very least, please give Takashi a class in people skills because his are sorely lacking. I am not starting over from scratch and will be canceling my account unless some resolution is had on this matter.

Wow. That's disgustingly rude of that GM.

I agree (with above poster)....no wonder tho...they must be getting pissed at having to answer calls because of broken gameplay. If a GM ever tells me that I'll just take my money someplace else where it's wanted. There will be NO shortage of MMORPG's very soon.....D&D, Imperator (sp), Warhammer Online (now back in development), Even startrek..hehe..trekkies!!! Middle earth, Tabula Rasa, plus tons more. I mean some will make it to release, not all...some will suck not all..but the point is...it's is US the consumer who decides the fate of these game...and if this GM is the standard I'd rather just walk away. (which I might if this game does not get better- ie QUESTS inm patch 2) --they better be worth it..

I agree with your estimate that at 8000 a shot you are looking at roughly 3 hours to clear the penalty (probably closer to 4). Although clearly a bad situation it certainly doesn't make the character unplayable and three hours invested in a new character would get you nowhere near your current level of advancement.

The only two practical options I see are to either bite the bullet and spend the three hours or to remain angry and leave. I don't think a GM resolution can be expected.

As a slight compensation, the three hours should at least result in a pile of resources that can either be sold or used for crafting.

I feel for you with your DP's but lots of other things can be just as bad.
I lost a couple of hours of solid work - 2 levels of melee - when they switched the NA hardware last night and saves were not working properly.
I went to bed and slept on it and will start getting the 2 levels back in a minute.
I know 3 hours for you sounds a lot but hey Im about to start 2 hours of ground hog day.
Good luck mate and I hope you get some fun on those lower skills :)

The problem is its 3hours just for the Dp this time. Each time I die, its another half hour or so to work of the Dp, so this isnt a one time thing, it will continue until I get another skill to a comparable level. And as you probably know, dieing is rather common in this game. I do agree with you however in that I dont expect any resolution at all either,
THe main point of the post wasnt this however, but that the Gm labeled advancing in prime roots forage as an exploit which justifies the gameplay issues that it has caused. That I just cant understand

Not to be rude, but shouldn't you have rethought your strategy after, I don't know, 500,000 death points?

At higher levels and 150k Dp per, it doesnt take long at all to exceed 500k. In this case, I was trying to get to tryker lands and racked up 700k before I started working off the Dp, which I was confident in my ability to do. Today they added several new mobs which changed this. And I did change my strategy several times thank you, but short of leaving Pr which even from the start would have meant 1.5 hours of Dp time, there was no way to forage without dieing. And again, it isnt like this is the only Dp i will ever get. I was trying to find a safe spot in the PR that I could forage at so I would be able to work off future Dp, but due to the new aggro and patrols, this is not possible.

3 hours from now is an excelent time to start working on bringing that lake forage tree up towards the same level as that primeroots forage tree.
