That would indeed make some sense. I still would like an official statement about this. Thats the root of whats pissing me off.

I wouldn't hold my breath. They don't make official pronouncements in these forums.

Also, distribution has not only been a problem in the North American market. The game is still largely unavailable in England as well.

When your a European company trying to break into the US market successfully, you avoid that to get your spot on the shelves of stores. Word of mouth only goes so far, having a spot on the shelves next to Doom3 and WoW will draw more interest than some fansites and download capability. The big name stores get paid good money for shelf space...

Yes that's true. Many people on the closed forums ask basic questions about the game : they didn't play the open beta and found by chance a box of Ryzom in a store. They had never heard about Ryzom before. I don't know for the USA but in Europe it's quite common to go to a store after work and choose a game just with the short description on the box.
