point of advice.. your starter magic amp is barely more functional than a lump of driftwood. look for player crafted ones that have at least +40% in elemental power (on newb islands) or +60% on mainland.. its more complicated than that, but bigger nuimbers are better - and the one they give you is only good at annoying yubos.
And the game is in desperate need of underwater basket weavers.. you will be most welcome

Also, do you see the power indication in the targeter? It reads 1 to 5 stars, and varying background colours (though I think it's going to be all greens where you are). 1 star greens are easiest.
As for dropping skills, you can't do that, but there's never a reason ... no skills block you from training anything else. Just don't use points in crafting for anything you can buy elsewhere, that's where skill points are likely to be tightest.

Windowed mode is normal. The game always starts in windowed mode, and will only switch after the character select screen.bstriege wrote:Once I get ingame I don't have any problems with hardware or software, it's just from the point I start the game to the loading screen when my characte appears in the world. That's where Windowed mode won't go away and I crash or lockup. I posted my specs above, and I can run the game with mostly full settings with no problems once I'm in.
It's not perfect (I'd prefer to be full screen from the begining too), but you arn't doing anything wrong to cause it

LMAO!
Ok, someone polish up the noob trophie of the year!
Last time I was getting really ***** off because I couldn't kill even the newbie monsters without getting destroyed. Today I delete that character and start over with the mage / gatherer / crafter and start back through the starter mission. This time I noticed my error ...
I wasn't trying the 1 star Sucklings, I was after the 2 star version. (can't recall name right now) So, that would explain why I was getting taken to school there. The whole time I was sitting there thinking to myself, "Why would these idiots design a game where you can't even kill the first mob in the game solo? This is retarded! Gah!"
Nope, I'm the idiot .... Sorry Ryzom!
So far I've leveled a few skills up and played with the crafting. I love how you can swap the materials around and get different results. I've been mining the start stuff and trying different types of boots.
Thanks again for all the help gang ... Ryzom is looking much better now that I have a better understanding of what I'm doing. I'm logging back in and going to try different combinations for underwater basket weaving to see if I can get an uber basket!
****Minor little tap on the nose for a first time "oops", we all know you meant to say "annoyed" right cos you wouldn't want to break the CoC... thought so - Souls****

Re: Oh ... My ... God
Even if you're no longer having any technical problems with the game, I highly recommend downloading klients and coming in to chat - depending on what time you're about, there should be plenty of people there to help you with any questions you might have about the game

Now you are on your way to learning the combinations that give you the stats that you like. Good crafting is an art and takes dedication to learn as well as a desire to seek out the proper materials.bstriege wrote: So far I've leveled a few skills up and played with the crafting. Re: Oh ... My ... God
Well, I had 3 or 4 ingame crashes / lockups today, but over all the game play was a heck of a lot better. I'm starting to get the hang of it and understand what's going on. I got out of the starter town after feeling like I got a grip on things. Kinda nice to actually see people running around and talking. lol
Right off the boat from newb town some random person hooked me up with a million item things that double my experience for awhile. So far I haven't met or seen one person act like a jerk. In fact, I actually saw some guys RPing! Been awhile since I actually saw someone RPing in an MMORPG.
Anyways, I'd like to thank everyone again for their comments and help. It's a great community and I look forward to spending some more time here.

I'm not really sure what's going on here ... Maybe that's why I was dying so much ... What I would do is find a mob I wanted to kill, cast acid on it 1-3 times while it was running at me. Once it got to me I would start the default attack and try to finish it off with melee.
Is that not a good way to do it? I was gaining melee and mage experience when I was actually able to kill something. Should I just be using melee or magic, not both during a fight? Personally I've always preferred melee over magic in every game I've played, so I'd really rather have a melee character with magic as a secondary thought.
Elemental is more powerful, eg, my Ele could kill a mob 20 levels higher than it with ease, my melee would have a fair old fight to kill the mob.
If you use two skills in a fight, your XP is divided between the two, you dont get Full Melee and full Mage XP, so you are slowing down your levelling. As I said get some melee skills and boost your HP then use your mage skills with ease.
Mixed attacks dont work for you because....
Your HP is too low, you have your Amps equipped. you cast your spells and the mobs attacks back....while you un-equip your amps and then equip your sword, there is a time-lag for this action, that is the period you cannot defend/attack and you get killed.
NOTE: Your magic is made up of attacks called Stanzas, these are constructed from components like Range/Speed/HP/Sap, you can mix and match these components to suit yourself and play to your strengths eg. I started as a Melee character, due to this I had alot of HP, so I could play around alot with the components, I could chuck alot of HP credits into the mix as I had high HP and plenty to spare, this cut down on my Sap usage.

Hi, sorry for bumping in.
EDIT: No matter, I have all my questions answered, sorry for troublemaking
I just wanted to ask about this. Being a newbie I thought that crafting has the most skillpoints for spare, and I used 40 points to boost my will and dexterity, to save my harvesting skillpoints on more useful things. Since my character is not very developed, and I do intend on leveling crafting someday, are there any reasons to restart my character?yaten wrote:Just don't use points in crafting for anything you can buy elsewhere, that's where skill points are likely to be tightest.
