It is certainly going to be hard for a game to survive if it doesnt get up to speed very quickly after release anymore.
What are they expecting - we all start our characters over just for the new quests?
Time will tell whether they roll out stuff quickly enuf to keep a large enuf player base.
Lack of quests...
Re: Lack of quests...
LOL, if quests are really THAT important in a game to you then maybe this isn't the right one for you?
This is the first game release I heard of where people begged so much for it to be turned into evercamp, err Everquest. Ryzom I think will offer something a lot better than static questing. Some people probably can't handle a change from Everquest, but for a lot of MMO players that is exactly what they want.

Re: Lack of quests...
I dont care about quest unless they involve OUTPOST ...... I wanna take one over hold it and kill anything that stands in my way..............oyea and i never ever played this MMORPG stuff b4 i came into this game from a FPS where stratagy and teamwork were key to success. I wanna send my troops oout to take outpost and hold them....I dont know how this is going to work but that is the WHOLE reason i got this game....I wanted something with some FPS type elements with some old school RPG stuff going on and i found it.....RYZOM.....I get into the whole area domination thing (hopefully) and i can CAP stuff..how cool..
Re: Lack of quests...
Outpost capture - well if its anything like the Horizons promise then I wouldn't hold my breath.
Best to like or dislike the game as it is at the moment.
Promises have a habit of vaporizing before your eyes.
Dragon lairs anyone?

Re: Lack of quests...
Forget Horizons. Give Ryzom the chance or don't based on what you see from Nevrax. There no relationship between the two games other than genre. No relationship between the two companies. If you want to be impatient, fine, I guess, but base it on what you've seen from Nevrax, not what you saw from AE.

Im hoping Ryzom is very successful - we all need a good MMORPG.

If the majority of players think its good it will be successfull - its just that simplekamagi wrote:Im hoping Ryzom is very successful - we all need a good MMORPG.

Re: Lack of quests...
Lyrah, thank you but I did RTFM, I know the background, and I know how to click on NPCs. I am an MMORPG gamer, I have played all of them, I know how they work. I'm not expecting a console game where you can "win", all I'm expecting are quests to do that keep me entertained.
Raul and Kamagi have good points, we as gamers are past the point where we will buy a game then sit patiently while it's "finished" post-release, this is why AC2 and Horizons are doing so poorly right now. In the early days that might have worked, there wasn't much of a choice back then, but now with so many games out there, many of them good and full of content, there's no reason to stick around and play a half-done game. You may say MMORPG's are never "finished", and that's true to a point, but when a game doesn't even have quests yet then it's safe to say it's not ready. Now I wont go so far as Raul and ask for my money back, being such an avid gamer in this genre I am used to this type of thing and can tell Ryzom has great potential. I will however, sit back and wait a month or two to see how this game progresses, if I don't like how Nevrax handles things at that point, I will cancel my sub. Right now tho, I just can't play a game that has nothing to offer but a grind.

Yes games have kill x mob, but you know there is a storyline behind it.
To me releasing a game out with 0 quests to do is a bad start for any mmorpg.
People dont wait for things anymore, if you go to a mall to buy a dvd and that particular store does not have it, you dont "wait" ntil they get more, you move to the next store ntil you find it.
Im not trashing the game, but I already seen many people leave the game and is not even a month old. The guild I started had 30+ members they all left except for maybe 3-4.
With titles such as WoW, EQ2, Guildwars, Matrix Online ect do you think people are going to sit and wait because "things are coming?" No way.
So if people dont start as costumers demanding stuff, this game will become Horizons 2 soon enough.
Right, they'll leave this game and go to those games and get fed up and leave those games. It's a never ending cycle. People come and go even in the first weeks of the game. TV, video games, whatever have given people a severe case of ADD and they hop around like mad and occassionally they land on something they can tolerate a little while longer. I mean people bought this game to pass the time before the "other" mmo's come out, but why? Why would someone plop down $50 for something they know they aren't going to play later on?
Like someone stated before, try learning the game, I've been playin and learning something new every day. I've learned that this game is more involved than I originally thought. Think you're going to get that with WoW? Not at all, WoW doesn't appeal to me in the slightest. It's an online arcade game with no depth to it what so ever. I'm in the beta and the quest system is generic, there's no story behind 95% of the quests. It's just go kill this and bring me back that. Funny thing is that 99% of the people that scream they want quests, never actually read the quests. They just read the objective and run out and do it so that they can get their payment.
I was hesitant about this game when I played the open beta back in April, it was just abysmal, but it has come a long way in 6 months. I think Nervax has an interesting concept and a definitly sleeper hit and I'm williing to stick it out to see where it goes.
