Oh ... My ... God

Post by bstriege »

I don't know how many times I've passed over the name of this game on the MMORPG game list without even thinking twice about it. I've been on the hunt for a new game since SWG started falling down. (CU for me .. ) I just quit WoW awhile ago and started hunting for a new game again. ;)

I'm such a rabid fan of skill based games, I can't believe I've never looked at SOR before. :D

I'm currently in the process of downloading the game right now, so maybe you guys can help swoon me while I wait. I'll put some points I look for and see if anyone can confirm or deny them in ROF for me.

1) Solo game play -- I work funky hours and can't dedicate a lot of time to one sitting most of the time. This makes it difficult to play group games since most of my time can be spent just looking for a group. I'm not looking for uber solo, kill anything in the game by myself, type play. I would however be able to login, bash some bad guys for an hour, and log out while still making some progress in the game.

2) Semi easy leveling -- Well, not so much levels, but being able to progress without spending a month just to progress to the next level / skill set.

3) Friendly and mature player base -- Forums at least seem to be this. I'm not really a roleplayer, but nothing turns me off a game more than walking into a town and seeing "L337playa" talking to "pwnzj00" about how something suxx0rs or how leet they are. I like to actually see avartars with none phrase, normal seeming names.... well, normal for the game world anyways. ;D

4) Server stability -- I prefer not to see people screaming "LAAAAAAAAAAG", crashing to the desktop, or having to cold boot my PC every 5 minutes because of sorry servers or bad coding.

5) Something other than level grinding -- Just so many sewer rats and bats to kill before you're ready to do something else! hehe. Looks like there's a pretty decent crafting system in SOR. Lots of other neat things ingame to do other than bash A_Monster01 6000 times till next level? :D

If anyone would care to say "I love SOR because ______" I'd appriciate it. I'm in the market for a game to throw my monthly fees at, and I'm hoping it's SOR. hehe ;)

PS: I was watching some of the videos from the site and I was confused by something. Some of those movies had what seemed to be space ships and guns. I was under the impression this was a sword and magic type game. Is it like a hybrid set in it's own universe or something? Was thrown by those clips. :D

Thanks!

soloing aint the easiest thing to do but its still possible, fortunately as arispostle server is international there are always people to hunt with, yes there are quiet periods but I think after a few weeks of play (when you generally do the most soloing anyway) you'll have enough people on your list to always find some hunt

its not WoW quick levelling and you might struggle at first to find the right mobs to get the quicker levels, ask around is the best idea and people will point you in the direction of mobs that are "quick" to level on

we apparently have a mature playerbase ;)

no lag that I know of tbh, cept maybe porting to zora with its 2billion npc's

plenty to do in-game, just dont get yourself in a cycle of grinding on a mob then writing the game off as a grindfest, if you dont look you wont find

Cool, thanks for the info Dark ...

So this is like a hybrid fantasy/sci-fi type game? Sexy .... That just makes it ever better! :D

Are ranged weapons (guns) viable for combat, or are they mostly just for pulling and such?

Right you are!!!

It´s VERY sexy!!! :D
This Mix is just the reason why I love it so much.
Highly techonolgical beings (Karavan) vs. Mythical spirits (Kami).
Unusual Creatures and skillfully shaped beautiful landscapes and Effects.
Gotta LOVE it.

Range, in the beginning, is realy just for that, but later on it becomes one of the most taktical adavantageous Skills... I´m just saying: "HAEVY Artillerie FIRE on MY MARK!!!" -BOOOOOM!!!- ;) :D Aerea Dmg... forget those healers. *eG*

I´m definetly going to lvl it more often these days.

Anyway, have fun and enjoy your trip through our giant treehouse.

Depends on what you mean by easy, and what you want out of the game ;) . It is very easy to play the game solo - I do it probably 80% of the time. It is not so easy to level combat skills rapidly solo - you have to be content with a more sedate pace. It is not possible to level Healing solo.

I just want to be able to log in, gain some experience, and see something new. If I have to pull 1 mob that's a little weeker than more that's fine, so long as there's not like 15 minutes of downtime between each fight. hehe

Still patching ... =(

Speaking of which ... If you get really beat up during a fight, how long does it take before you're 100% and ready for the next battle if you're solo?

Nope, if you´re in the right area, theres´s no downtime between the fights.
You´ll be glad if MOBs don´t storm you from every direction *gg*

Depends on how many HP you´ve got, but never more that about 2-3 minutes.
