It doesn't really matter. The info on these surveys never really reflect the majority of the people who never visit these boards. Only about 10% of all the players ever visit a game's official msg board according to research. A large amount of them who doesn't come may very well be a good chunk of an age group.

If Nevrax wants to collect some demographic information on their player base, the forums is not a very good way to do it. As stated in this thread, a LOT of people that play never vist the forums.

Instead, why doesn't Nevrax use their own account registration database? When you register it requires you to enter date of birth, gender, address, etc. So you already have this information.

Further, you can use data collected through the login server to match this demographic up with play duration, times people play, etc.

Interesting that there's a dip in the 26-29 years old range. Busy dating? :)

Even if the sample size is less than 10%, that might be sufficient for statistics, but you are right that the sample selection is biased because only a certain type of player visits the forums.

Then again, it seems forum dwellers tend to be more committed/involved (or at least the most vocal) in the game and are a good group to poll for opinions and feedback. I'd say that it would be in Nevrax's best interest to attract the type of player that _does_ visit the forums regularly.

Well I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one in the 40+ category. Sometimes I wonder if I'm the only one in a rocking chair at the computer.......

I'm glad to know that this is a normal stage in human development, and not just me being and underpaid and overworked twenty-something. :D

Sadly not, it's a flaw in the poll - statistically the poll is flawed because the number of years of age covered by a category is wildly fluctuating.

Just look at this :
10 - 18 covering 8 years
18 - 25 covering 7 years
26 - 29 covering 3 years
30 - 35 covering 5 years
36 - 39 covering 3 years

When you notice the dip in the 26 - 29 category you notice the fact that this category only covers 3 years - and the smaller the range of years the less people will fall into that category. :)

There is little useful iinformation in this poll, sadly. Sorry, Cerest. :)

A useful poll would have been something like that:
< 21
21 - 25
26 - 30
31 - 35
> 35

Not really. 18-25, inclusive, is a 6 year span and 30-35 is also 6 years, while 26-29 is only a 4 year span. There are 8.125 people per year in the 18-25 group, 9.5 people per year in the 30-35 group, and 11 people per year in the 26-29 group so *more* per year in that late 20's age group than the groups before or after it.
