One full night of play. First impressions.

Post by csb1973 »

Got out of work early today as my crew was worked pretty hard and finished some projects in record time. Decided to forego any sort of movement due to aching muscles and play video games all day :) Recreated my Tryker to add crafting skills to his starting repetoire. From my log in around 3 till my log out at around 10:30 I had a great time. Got a handle on combat, prospecting and beginner crafting. I have to say, I was impressed. The graphics and sound are very nice. Gameplay is a bit clunky at first but the learning curve isnt as daunting as I had believed. Once I got the hang of things I took a chance at the mainland. Fairhaven was bustling, but not lag filled. Turning off shadows got me around with out any real delay. The people I talked to in regional chat were very helpful with any questions I had, and not condescending or insulting. In fact, I was healed up, given prospecting advice, had certain skills explained to me and chatted a bit in only a short time after arriving. After some amber gathering, and lots of dead newbie animals, I think I can say this is a pretty cool game. The gameplay seems like I only scratched the surface, but not insanely confusing or complicated. Watching magic in action made me create a a Zorai, but combat and foraging seem to be a great beginner skill set. Cant wait to actually craft some useful armors and weapons for sale. The critters look great and the races are made very deep with detailed background on each one. RP seems like it will come easy after a small bit of reading.
Now this is my first full game session so im sure Ill find stuff to gripe about, but damn, what a great first impression.

Seems like your already doing all the right things... read the new game manual they posted... read up on the lore... then just do what you want to do.

Great start!

You have just scratched the surface and as you progress more and more will be revealed.

Some examples:
All mobs are resistant to certain attacks and armour made from the quartered materials are also resistant to the same attack.
You can choose your weapon or magic for hunting a particular type of creature.
In foraging and crafting you combinations of materials make the highest dodge armour, greatest damage axe or jewels that resist certain attacks.

Then there is travelling to different continents, exploring all the varied habitats.

The planet lives, trees grow and die, carnivores prey on the herbivores, mobs migrate so you need to know their patterns for hunting. It can take ages to learn all the subtleties.

Events are organised as well. Role-play events, Kitin raids into the city!

Enjoy your stay on Atys, as you say you have just scratched the surface.

I have been playing for about 3 weeks now, and my first few days of solid gameplay were also much as you described.

It astounded me that so many homin would just offer me help; a rez, items, information....sometimes even before a formal "hello"! Even on Newbie island I was taken under the wing of a seasoned player who took the time to show me the early ropes.

My 3 weeks of playing have only gotten better since those first few days. I've had some truely awesome experiences that I will forever remember (and some I will just flat-out giggle about) as I have explored portions of Atys. It's not only the game that I find so wonderful....it is the many players that are so giving of their time and effort to make new players feel welcome.

Ryzom is a 5-star game, if I've ever seen one!
