I like this idea. I always thought it was odd that the kitins in our lands just move around the areas in large number, as if they were just normal critters. They're supposed to be a terror to every other life form on Atys, killing everything in their way. Kitin that are outside the nests should be either busy establishing a new nest or attacking homin strongholds, not wandering around aimlessly.michielb wrote:I know this wasn't directed at me but here's an idea I've been thinking about for quite some time: When kitins invade they gradually take over the enitre area, killing all that stands in their way. Mob density drops steadily over time, except for the aggro kitins, until no mobs other than kitins are present in the area. Now the no aggro kitin move in and start "harvesting" the resources in the area while the aggro kitins prepare to invade the next area.
Also, if they do this, they could make the roles of the different kitin come out more clearly. First stage of the invasion would be a few dozen kipesta and kizoar scouts that wander through the region. They'd start collecting small amounts of resources, leaving less for us. If they're not killed, after a while there comes a second wave made of kincher hunters. These begin killing off the animals in the region, hunting down homins, and launching attacks on tribe camps. Third wave is the actual takeover of the region, done by hundreds of kirosta that slaughter everything in their way. In this stage the region would be a permanent warzone between the kirosta and local fauna and tribes. Kiban harvesters start moving in and depleting the resource fields. If nothing is done, the kitin take over the region. Kipees move in and start building nests, kipuckas move in to protect them. Tribes abandon the region and set up camps along the border from where they attempt to take it back. Normal creatures no longer exist in the region and resource fields are depleted. If it's left this way for long enough, eventually a queen moves into the region acompanied by her kinrey guards and the takeover is complete.
Another interesting part of this system would be that we can choose to push the kitin back or not. After all, we may want to have kinchers in some areas so that we can hunt them. And we may want to let a queen inhabit an area for while, so that we can get lots of larva when we push her out again.
