@Celli
First of Ryzom is currently a Player vs Enviroment game (PvE). Please note the currently.
The very limited Player vs Player (PvP) is just that, limited.
NPC=mob. Whether you are fighting mobs or badits or tribes you are fighting the 'same AI model'
I think, but haven't tried for a while that there is Team vs Team (TvT). Where the two group leaders agree to duel .. each group can fight each other.
OK, if all you want as may others do is to fight other players, the current Ryzom may not be for you. However, in the future, it maybe..... Guild vs Guild is planned. Fights for land ownership (Outposts) will come.
Consentual Dueling is there for a reason - to prevent 'greifing'. I for one would not play this game if a power leveled kiddy that can spend all day leveling fight could wander over to me a kill me in seconds while I harvest. Take all my stuff and send me a tell saying 'u sux! I is teh win'.
I view the item economy in the exact opposite way to you. I harvest for one main reason (to collect mats) for two purposes (1. to complete Missions to make money and 2. to make equipment for the guild and other players).
That is why I harvest. As I harvest I improve in skill allowing greater number of mats to be extracted and less down time, currently I have 1190 Focus and extract 4xql99 mats with no downtime every 50 secs. The only reason to stop harvesting is when my bag is full! which takes about 1 hour to fill, I can carry around 400+ mats).
**Takes of Harvest hat and puts on Crafter Hat**
In about 20 mins I can consume arround 300 mats makeing 5xql90 Hvy vests, 5xql90 hvy Helmets, 5xql80 swords, 5xql50 medium pants [shop mats]. This completes 2 missions which plays just under 1 million dappers and gives me some fame.
I can also do other fame releated missions - Why is fame important?
Fame effects who the 'environment sees you'. Shop prices are cheaper if you are 'famous', when guild missions/outpost are active fame will effect this too.
These two activities give me and my guild benefits. It allows me to improve my crafting skills - to keep the fighters and magic users in equipment.
When I choose to go hunting - I can group with the guild they and I will be well equiped to face the challenges.
We have guild members that regularly go through 1 or 2 set of equipment a day. I want to be in a position to keep up with this.
I beleive the 'basics' for player added content have been in the game since release.
Player added content is goals and objective set by the players.
Examples: Travel, obtaining a Guild Hall, obtaining an appartment, get 3 mules. Exploraition of different areas, interacting with the tribes.
My personal 'Main Goal' for Ryzom is to unite the worlds. I am constantly searching for tribes that have a common goal. Currently Tryker, Zorai, Corsairs, Green seed. I support the Karavan out of necessity, as I trust nether Kami or Karavan. Corsairs follow Kami, Green Seed follow Karavan, but both will interact with me.
Balancing fame is an element of 'content' that few play much attention to.
Money - will have lots of uses when outposts come, so I plan to make as much now as possible.
Fight/Magic - have little interest for me at the moment - Blind means there is no challenge to fighting.
I have found that really you get what you put into Ryzom. If you look at it as a level race to be the highest level xyz - you soon realise that its all about time and not skill. Anyone can hit 250 in any branch, given the time.
It maybe possible to 'short cut' some of the time with 'knowledge' but not by much.
Ryzom is not a 'linear adventure', you can go anywhere at anytime.
Ryzom is not a 'quest driven game', you can do tasks, and soon (Chapter 2) guild missions, but they are not a requirement.
Ryzom is not a 'race', if it takes 1 day to get 1 level you are no less important to the world and someone who gains 10 levels a day.
Ryzom IS an experience .... its a journey of discovery.
GM orgainsed events occur regularly.
Player orgainsed events occur regulary.
ALL games can be 'knocked' as pointless. They are all just 'programs' and 'numbers'. They are all about repeatition, show me a game that isn't.
How that repeatition is packaged, makes the game good or bad.
If you don't like the way its done here, then slight changes to the game mechanics are not going to change your view point.
Why would being able to take stuff of players you have killed make the game anymore enjoyable?
I remember the 'ear' collecters from Diablo - they would hack the game to allow them to attack other players, take their ears and stuff and brag how great they were! But to me they weren't great they were cheats and selfish in the fact that their pleasure was from the misery of others.
A great example of a PvP game is PlanetSide - however, calls for 'content' and 'nerf this' and 'buff that' has turned a great tactical game into a whos got the biggest insta-kill weapon 'Unreal Tornement' style game.
Anyway - summary
If it bores you, wait till patch 2 and check back then.
If it still bores you after that its not a game for you.
There is a lot under the surface of Ryzom for players and more on its way. Be sure that you have explored the game fully before dismissing it.
What are you planning to do with ryzom?
Re: What are you planning to do with ryzom?
Very good answer and i apreciate ur reply but i'm picky and what to point some things out
"I remember the 'ear' collecters from Diablo - they would hack the game to allow them to attack other players"
It seems Diablo come up all the time when ppl start to tak about pvp, and it always seems that this coincides with a bad Representation of it, If ppl that used to play Eve where here to tell u (Wheres Aneu when u need him) pvp is a Beautiful thing, sure there was general ganking with ha u sux i r teh with ****, but that has slowly gone as these ppl either run out of pocket money or the other players just gank them back and turn there backs on these individuals.
"Ryzom is not a 'linear adventure', you can go anywhere at anytime."
Now tbh this is not entirely true, me char is only a lev 25 fighter, as i only have a small amount of time after work to play, now atm it is near impossible to get to the town next door (well i find it is) thus it makes u turn into abit of a lev junky.

find a guild is the best advice - we make a point in the Redcaps of including anyone who wants to go on a hunt, regardless of lvl. Not the most efficient way of playing - far better ways to powerlvl if thats what you want but its very sociable and thats the main thing for me.
>>Its not a race
Couldn't agree more
Couple of questions/points rather than dwell on stuff thats been argued elsewhere -
1)whats the point of owning outposts?
2)would be nice if there were a lot more GM scheduled events/random stuff happening
3)bit worried that melee soloing at higher levels is very hard at the moment but with the new patch is might be impossible to get 3k xp. I don't always want/have the opportunity to group (sometimes I just want to log on for 30 mins and have a quick fight)

Re: What are you planning to do with ryzom?
Just wanted add to the Pvp statment, in the begining its true alot of ppl will be running arount pointlessly ganking other ppl, but given time other guids/players, will start to oppose these few guilds and players, this will then stop the ganking and all u'll hear is guilds clashing and having the time of there lives, and asking each ceo if they r up for a fight is lame really, it's like the UK going to say iraq and asking if they can attack them.. i mean wtf (ok not the best analogy but hey)
Re: What are you planning to do with ryzom?
I have only a few hours after work, too. I try to be as time efficient as possible. 'Blocks of time' harvesting and Crafting. Hunting is the hard one for me, with setup time for groups+travel+fighting I don't get to hunt very often
'Community is King' a good guild or group of friends add some much to Ryzom that the 'devs' could never add in content.
'Travel' in most cases the key to travel is knowing what bites and what doesn't. There are some places 'Prime root entrances' and the Maze in Matis where really you have only 3 choices (Invunribilty, large group or hours of paitents).
The 'rush' to other lands is a sort of competion. There is no need to leave your mainland, everything you need it there already.
The other lands are nice, but there is no place like home.
@Krone9
Outposts: if you beleive the press/marketing
-Mini town, with spawn for guild
-You can build stuff on it. For example farms for harvesters to 'grow' mats
-Advanced trainers - allowing access to unique skills not available at other trainers.
-Status
- something that required defending from invasions/tribe attacks/other guild attacks.
There is more but I can't remember everything.

Re: What are you planning to do with ryzom?
outposts sound really good then.
I would LOVE it if you could choose where to build them - and name them - ie they weren't in fixed locations. I don't think this will be permitted but is there a good reason why not?

Sounds indeed very promising. Such a feature would set SoR even more a part from other mmorpg titles.
Are these expected in chapter 2?

My understanding is:
Patch 2 will see the outpost officers enabled in towns.
These outpost officer give guild leaders the mission to claim a selected outpost.
These mission have a time limit - (I can't remember but I seem to recall 3-7 days [realtime])
Every member of the guild gets the same mission displayed.
You have the choice of diplomatic or aggressive take-over of your chosen outpost.
once gained you get an NPC that represents you guild.
There were 4 spaces if I remember correctly for buildings - what these are we will have to wait and see.
Depending on how you took you outpost the surrounding tribes will either help you defend or try to reclaim the land.
I am guess the majority of this will be in the patch..... which is why I think they are taking their time to get it right.
So far everything they have put in the game has been alot more complicated than first impressions show.
Re: What are you planning to do with ryzom?
Over a year on. We've seen the changes.
Anyone want to share your opinion on the progress that has been made?
