Chapter 12 The Kami Gate

The morning was bright and sunny, the sun filled the camp causing the homins to awake. Still sleepy from the party they said little to each other as they packed up and feed the packers and mounts. Once everything was set up and the water barrels were full they mounted and set off towards the Northeast and what the Zorai called the Ivy Gate.

“So what is this gate were going to?” Sa’Be’Cena asked with a huge yawn and while she rested her head on her mount.

“It’s the gate that leads to the Zoriai desert area.” One the Karavan Scouts said checking the maps.

Sa’Be’Cena just nodded.

“Sa’Be’Cena your mount is not a bed.” Be’Cona said while pouring some water on Sa’Be’Cena to wake her up.

“Hey, Be’Cona I’ll get you back for that!” Be’Cona yelled not aware that everyone was starring at Be’Cona and her. But they quick turned back before she noticed.

The wind was cool that day, yubos played, kippee patrolled the lands in great herds, Arma fought zerxs, it was a calm normal day in the Zorai Jungle. They past a few tribes, a tribe gave them an evil glance that made everyone feel uneasy. At a closer look, they saw why, Kami totems stood at each need of the camp.

“Don’t worry they won’t attack us, not unless they wish to leave this realm.” The Karavan High Officer said seeing the homins get tense at the sight of the tribe.

When they entered a tunnel they dismounted and grab their weapons. The sound of Kittin roars echoed through the tunnel and scared the mounts and packers.

“Calm down Wind Rider nothing with hurt you.” Windra said to his mount trying to calm him down.

“Ready this isn’t going to be easy, we have a lot of hungry friend out there?” La’Beka and Da-Fan said returning from the end of the tunnel.

“Let’s do it!” The Zorai yelled raising their weapons in the air.

With that they set out, ready for anything. But what was waiting for them wasn’t what anyone was expecting. It was a trail of death, Kittins everywhere, Zerxs, Najabs, and Torbaks roamed the land. To make matters worse, there were purple fumes in the distant.

“Goo, this is bad.” Ca-Hon said point to a puddle of purple stuff.

“This means the creatures are infected.” Xe-Mozo said scanning the horizon.

“We must fight our way through them if we wish to get to the gate.” One of the Karavan Gunners said loading with blaster.

Not liking was about to happen they walk on and onto the dirt path. They walk slowly trying not to disturb any of the creatures, even tho the Karavan was right behind them. It wasn’t long before they came to a stone wall that was covered in moss; Windra walked up to it and rubbed off some of the moss. Underneath it was were strange symbols, but before he could ask the Zorai a blaster went off. Everyone turned around to see the Karavan were shooting at a herd of Kittins storming their way.

“Everyone get really we have company!” The Karavan High Officer yelled over her groups blasters.

“Be’Cona help the Karavan Gunners, quick!” La’Beka yelled point at the Karavan Gunners.

“Ta-Mano you too!” Da-Fan yelled.

“Everyone else you know what to do, lets wipe these Kittin scum of the face of Atys!” La’Beka and Da-Fan yelled running straight at the Kittin who were only a few meters away.

The sound of guns, blades blocking claws, the sound of shockwave and electric spell, heals, cries of pain, and the sound of Kittin roars filled the air. La’Beka and Da-Fan really showed the kittin who was boss. A Zoria’s wisdom and A Tryker’s wind like swiftness cut through the Kittin like they were sand. But La’Beka’s greatness in this battle is about to fail.

La’Beka was so busy helping Da-Fan his Kittin he didn’t notice the Kittin he thought he killed was still a tiny bit alive.

“La’Beka behind you!” Ga’Lorda cried as the Kittin slashed La’Beka’s back.

The Karavan shot it down, but the damage had already been dealt. La’Beka eyes widened as the Kittins claw slashed his chest plate into several pieces. La’Beka tried to say something but his mouth filled with blood. His chest plate lied around him like he was the only survivor of war and he stood surrounded by this friends and brothers. His back had a slash wound from his shoulder blade to his waist. With the last of his energy he spit the blood in this mouth out and fell to the ground.

“La’Beka, are you ok, Le’Beka, please stand up!” Everyone yelled hearing him hit the ground.

“Windra, Aqua, Sa’Be’Cena, use your gifts and blast these monsters while we help La’Beka!” The Karavan High Officer yelled

Xe-Mozo ran to La’Beka and picked him. Xe-Mozo held La’Beka tight and ran towards the mounts to get some medicine. With a bright flash the last of the Kittin herd fell, as did Aqua, Windra, Sa’Be’Cena with the symbols on their hands glowing wildly. Three Scouts picked up the guardians and carried them towards the other to rest.

La’Beka awoke suddenly by a huge stinging pain in his back.

“Ouch what in the name of Jena happened?” La’Beka boomed.

“Stay still or your wound will reopen, Aqua, Sa’Be’Cena, can you get me the green bottles from by packer, after I apply that I need everyone who can heal over here.” Xe-Mozo said while she applied another damp bandage to La’Beka’s back.

“What happened to me and why do I taste blood. Ouch that stings, I though you were a healer not a yubo!” La’Beka yelled at Xe-Mozo

“A Kittin you thought was dead, used the last of its strength and cut right through your armor.” Sa’Binga and Ma-Seb mumbled each holding a brush in their mouths as they applied an armor coat to La’Beka’s new chest plate.

La’Beka let out a huge yell, that made everyone jump, even the Karavan thought someone was under attack.

“What was that for!” Le’Beka yelled at Xe-Mozo who had just slapped the last bandage on La’Beka’s back

“Never call me a Yubo, you Torbak kisser!” Xe-Mozo said in a calm voice pushing La’Beka head down on the rolled up blanket, she was using as a pillow.

La’Beka was muffled by the blanket.

“Calm down La’Beka, now stay still this wont hurt, but for the heals to work, you need to stay still.” Windra said as he stared to cast a healing spell.

“Just be happy you won’t have a scar.” Aqua and Sa’Be’Cena laughed while starting their heals too.

“Windra, Aqua, Se’Be’Cena, why are your heals fading in and out?” Xe-Mozo asked noticing the guardian’s heals were fading.

“Our gifts drain our energy, so we have to be careful when using them.” Aqua responded.

“Then why do you use them?” Ta-Mano asked before Xe-Mozo could speak.

“Young Zoria, the guardians powers are extremely powerful, these three have the power of Jena flowing through them. Their still novices to their gifts, so every time they use them, they faint from lack of energy.” A Karavan Gunner said while she looked over the markings on the wall.

“It’s a blessing and a cures, We’re a lot closer to master them then you would think.” Windra said before taking a sip of water vile next to him.

“Brother that’s not water.” Aqua said trying to hide her grin

“That’s herbal healing oil!” Xe-Mozo yelled seeing what Windra was drinking.

“What!” Windra yelled spitting the blue liquid over La’Beka.

“Windra watch what you’re doing.” La’Beka yelled sitting up.

“Well I see your feeling better.” Xe-Mozo sighed as she packed up her medicine vials.

“That’s it, lets talk.” La’Beka said through clenched teeth.

“Captain, these symbols don’t make any sense, I’ve checked the database, and they say something about these two warriors.” A Scout said rubbing some more moss and moss off the wall.

Everyone stopped as the Scout said this.

“The story of this wall won’t be in your database Scout, it’s a Zoria story passed down from family to family." Xe-Mazo said taking an amber cube from his mounts bag.

“Here read it.” Xe-Mazo said handing the amber cube to the High Officer.

“Long ago after the great dragon fell into the shadows of Atys, word reached the Zorai about the team who had given to their life’s to weaken the dragon so Jena could destroy it. The Zorai leader discussed about what should be done to honor these brave Zoria. The leaders came up with many ideas like naming a city after them, but many Zorai disagreed with this idea. Nothing seemed good enough for these brave warriors, until the Kami told them to build four great statures at the north and south ends of the jungle.

Everyone agreed with the Kami and the statures were made of the finest stone in all of the Jungle. The Kami told the leader that they are going to make a wall to keep bandits and evil creatures out, but the wall would only be an illusion. Knowing they couldn’t keep the gates guards all day and all night the Zorai leaders asked the Kami for help. They told the leader that the spirits of the Zoria guardians will take control of the statues and guard their home. The guardians will choose who enter this jungle and who doesn’t. The Zorai agreed and the spell was cast, the Kami wall would stand for ever.”

The High Officer then handed the cube to Xe-Mazo.

“The wall failed when the kittin came, the kittin knew the wall real and if they didn’t, they would have still found a way in.” Da-Fan said slashing the wall with his sword. The sword went through it like air.

“It’s only real to touch and sight.” He finished turning back to the group.

Then lets just go through it.” Sa’Binga said wiping the armor cloat from his hands on a rag.

“The only way to the desert is through the gate, but the guardians wont lets us.” Ca-Hon said returning with his hands full of fruit.

“Wow nice fruit, what this one?” Sa’Be’Cena asked pointing at a bundle of teal and red berries.

“These are called Flower Petal Berries, be careful when eating them, they’re sour and I mean sour.” Ca-Hon said laughing as he threw the berries at Sa’Be’Cena

“How bad can they be, besides we’re starving here.” Sa’Be’Cona said while she popped a berry in her mouth.

“Wow these have a kick to them!” Sa’Be’Cona yelled as a shiver ran up her spine.

“I warned you, Trykers never listen.” Ca-Hon laughed as he spread the fruit out on a cloth.

Everyone else just sighed and started eating the fruit. After everyone was full and there were hardly any fruit left the group mounted and continued to fallow the wall till they would reach the gate.

“So Ca-Hon how do you know so much about fruits in this area, I mean with all this goo?” Ga’Lorda asked trying to break the silence.

“Well brushes and tree’s die when Goo invades their roots. So the trick is to make sure there is no Goo around and if there are any Goo mutated tree.”

“What’s a Goo mutated tree?” Sa’Binga asked.

“When a tree becomes infected with Goo, the bark will turn a dark brown or a black, and the leafs are thick.” Ca-Hon responded.

“This Goo sounds deadly.” Sa’Binga said

“It is extremely deadly, but we can’t tell where it came from or why.” Ca-Hon said.

“Everyone we must hurry we are entering twilight and this is a bad place to camp.” The High Officer said picking up the pace.

Everyone quick told their mounts to walk faster to catch up with the Karavan. But the Karavan stopped shortly after, for they stood in front of two grand statues of two Zorai warriors.

“This better be the gate and not another Kami magic trick?” The High Officer said pointing at the gate.

It was just like what the Zorai showed them. Two giant statures that were almost like life, they held to sword in front of them as they were waiting for something. Beyond them were several pillars and what looked like a grand doorway.

They took one step closer to the gate when the eyes of the statues burst to life, like fireballs. They slammed their sword down next to each other blocking the pathway. The ground split with deep cracks as the swords dung deep.

“Be gone this not a place were you wish to venture. The Statues boomed.

“Jena has sent us, now lets pass, this is a very important task!” The High Officer yelled up at the statues.

Her tone made the group back away but Se’Be’Cona, Aqua, and Windra stood their ground.

“Lies, how do we know this isn’t a trick!” The statues boomed back.

“We are the great follower of Jena, The Great Techno Lords, now remove your swords now!” The High Officer boomed back.

“Be gone!” The Statues boomed and they fell back into their sleep.

The High Officer was now ticked and insulted.

“We’ll take care of this, please move back.” Aqua said in a calm voices walking towards the statues.

The Karavan moved back at her word.

“Lets us pass, a darkness is growing and we must unite the races.” Aqua said to statues in a calm voice

The statues came back to life at Aqua words.

“We know, that’s why we can’t let you pass, now leave.” They boomed.

“We’re the guardians of Light, Water, and Wind, now remove your swords.” Windra yelled, removing his gloves and showing them the glowing symbol.

“Then its as we feared, this is no normal evil, only grand evils would cause Jena call on the guardians. Where are Earth and Fire?” They said in a calm voice.

“Matis Forest, our power is still divided.” Sa’Be’Cona said also showing her symbol.

“This evil wants to start a war with the Fryos, but we don’t know why.” Aqua said showing her symbol as well.

As she did this the gate at the very end of the pathway opened and a portal came into view.

“You truly are the new guardians, you and your friends may pass, but we warn you, the Fryos are mad about something, so stay out of their way.” The statues said with dieing voices.

They moved their swords and everyone walk on towards the portal.

“We can now join Windra and Aqua, we have severed our duty, and lets inform the others.” The statues said to each other as they vanished into leafs as did the wall.

The wall, pillars, statues, arches, vanished into leafs as the last homin passed them; the group turned around at the portal to see the wall and the gateway turn into leafs and blew away. As the leafs cleared the true area came into view, just trees and bushes.

“Goodbye my sweet, sweet jungle we shall return.” The Zorai said with a sigh and they turned and followed the others through the portal to the land of the Burning Sands
