As I said, I agree that there's a realism to your idea, but there's a game balance issue, too. Unless they're going to create an event where the kitins approach each outpost equally in their invasion, then it's just not balanced.
Never in my initial post did I say that some outposts would be attacked and others wouldn't as far as I'm concerned all OP's have an equal chance of being destroyed by a kitin invasion.

Every invasion would take place in a random area and would then spread out to other area's if not stopped by homin.
In my scenario kitins could take over the world one area at the time.

Funny by the way how this one little detail of my idea has become the focal point of this disscussion, makes me wonder why I even bother posting here...

Don't take it like that. I agreed with every thing else you posted. I'm not going to write "good idea" 15 times just so I can discuss the one thing I didn't agree with. In fact I didn't write "good idea" at all because most of your idea was very similar to mine.

My critique was never intended to shut you down or prevent you from giving ideas. I was merely suggesting that the one part of your idea would be unbalanced.

The start of an invasion shouldn't be totally random; it's got to fit the story at least a little. In that case, some OP's will naturally be at more risk than others due to the locations. If the risk increase were solely based on OP level, it would be reasonable, IMO. But if the increased risk is just bad luck, that doesn't seem right.

I had a post way back here (the "RAID" bullet) with something to the tune of this 'how could RAID be changed' deal. Problem is, that an idea like that is still, _way_ out there, so I'll try and compose a more relevent suggestion.

I think that just as the RAIDs need to be expanded in length in the T-plus (when the RAID is happening), they could also be expanded in the T-minus, with scout missions, assignment of duties, material gathering, sabotage of kitin operations, et cet'ra.

The ideas presented here on large scale regional invasions are great. Making the Kitin a living breathing threat to Atys would be awsome.
As far as losing outposts is concerned, Ryzom has never been about fair, and I greatly enjoy that aspect of this game. The real risk of loosing an outpost to an invasion creates an additional dynamic to outposts. It would leave a guild with two options, defend it, or take somone elses.
In addition to the prevous suggestions I have one more. I would like to see Kitin scouting mobs that function in simmilar ways to bosses, Skoff, comes to mind. Let these mobs roam a region, in various strengths and with random respawn rates, leaving a swath of destruction in their wake. Many Homin, mself included, have learned the safe ways and spots on atys, these will present an additional risk to those traveling overland or foraging. Now i'm not suggesting that these be as bad as the patrols in Prime roots, but should give the feeling that nowere is safe all the time. Perhaps in addition give players a reason, in addition to security, to actually track and hunt these mobs, I think many would enjoy such a challange.

Ah, yes. Would it not be awesome if there was just one moment where a player could think "Hey, there aren't usually 3-star purple kipesta in Cities of Intuition...are there?" juuuust before getting mowed down.

Fun to get mowed, no, not really. But, these creatures supposedly came close to wiping homins from the face of atys. Realistic, you tell me?

I'd just like to see the kitin threat more accuratly represented than just another herd of bodic standing and staring at you.

It's been asked for before and I'd like to say it again because I think it has particular relevance to a discussion about worldwide invasions :

I would like to see something like a revision of aggro mechanics so that 1) smart mobs like kitin do not aggro on homins that have a much higher combat level than their own, 2) homins cannot initiate an attack on mobs of a much lower level than their highest combat level.

The point being to give homins of all levels a crucial role in battling against a full on progressive invasion with kitin spewing from the bark in all areas. Might also help stop complaints that the invaders were too wimpy. Might also help stop complaints that invaders were too strong. (Would indubitably raise other complaints :) )
