[FAQ] Performance Tweaks
Re: [FAQ] Performance Tweaks
I like to tab-out of MMOs from time to time just to see how much memory they are using...its the nerdy side of me. Anyway, I found that out of my 2GB of memory, ryzom was using 650mb...and that's low compared to other games I've played. If you're going to play ANY mmorpg, 1GB of memory is pretty much a necessity for smooth gameplay.
Re: [FAQ] Performance Tweaks
Ok, since we're talkning about performance and Ryzom here, i got a question.
i got the following system setup:
Pentium 4 3.02Mhz
2gig Ram (PC266)
nVidia 5600 graphics card
1MBit down/128k up ADSL
Windows XP Mediacenter
Still i lag, sometimes more, sometimes less...
Riding a mount out of Zora is like steering a hypersenible oil tanker; reacts minutes after command is given, but then very hefty
So, In order to reduce lag, should i
[ ] get a faster internet connection
[ ] get a better System
[ ] get a better Video Adapter
[ ] do something else, which is....
ty for your responses!

Re: [FAQ] Performance Tweaks
1. Get the latest video drivers, that seems to help considerably.martl wrote: So, In order to reduce lag, should i

2. Your internet connection is fine, according to Ryzom tech support.
3. Tweak your graphics settings a bit, reduce far clip, cut out shadows
4. Turn off EAX sound settings, if you have them on. (reduces lag)
5. Avoid Zorai cities whenever possible (you'll just get lost anyway, although I like Min Cho), the best system would be challenged and cause attack lag.

Re: [FAQ] Performance Tweaks
Ive just started playing Ryzom. This game is really great, but a window keeps poping up saying "waiting..." Its not all the time, so i really doubt its my firewalls. Plus ive changed most of those already. My computer is almost top of the line (Intel PD, 2 g's ram, gtx card). If anyone could help me with this problem I would be eternally greatful, for I cannot seem to play. Again, thx for any help.

If you have opened the UDP game port as per the Network and LinkSys FAQs then you may just be experiencing transient network performance drops. Again, look in the Network FAQ and run Ping Plotter to the game server site to see if there are any bottlenecks or dead nodes. I have spoken with some players with cable who cannot play Ryzom during peak hours in their neighbourhood due to the quality of service from their ISP.

Re: [FAQ] Performance Tweaks
A rather important thing for Windows users and keeping your PC happy is running Disk Cleanup, then Defrag. I do this every couple of days, and I run Ryzom smooth as butter with the following system:
AMD Athlon XP 1.7ghz
Windows XP Home Edition SP2
1gig DDR Ram
nVidia GeForce 5200
Broadband Internet
I have most of my graphics turned all the way up, 32 channel sound with EAX enabled. Another suggestion would be to change what Windows loads during startup, and deactivate that which is not needed often.

Re: [FAQ] Performance Tweaks
Another performance enhancement I've done, which worked for my PC:
- Move swap partition (Virtual Memory, under Control Panel > System > Advanced) to fastest hard disk, and not on the same drive as the game installation
- Run SpybotSD with latest updates
- Download and run RegCleaner, which removes keys that don't need to be in the registry
- Turn off virus checker -- I only recommend doing this if you aren't alt-tabbing out to use your web browser
- For the majority of users I'd recommend leaving your personal firewall on (ZoneAlarm, McAfee etc.) unless you are certain there isn't any spyware or worm sitting on your system trying to eat your network resources.
