I suggest Melee and Mage, that way you can wear any aremour and will have a lot of hitpoints for casting spells while geting whacked.
Try the crafting etc for making stuff abd selling it for dappers (money).

For those sliders in the beginning whe creating a character, the reccomended set is one on magic one on harvest and one on craft.

They give some beginning skills and equipment, but importantly some require 20-50 skill points to start if you DON'T get it in the beginning. The exception is fight, you can jump on the island without that starter pack and start punching yubos to advance in that skill. That's why it's advised to skip that one.

Even if you don't plan on harvesting or crafting heavily, it's nice to have the starter packs so you can dbble in it without having to spend hard earned skill points from your main interests

Well, the starting island you begin on will most likely be pretty empty regardless. It's simply because people don't play there long. But feel free to run around for a few minutes to get used to the interface and controls and than head to the mainland if you get bored.

As for the mainland, Zorai is notoriously low population. The other 3 are fine, though Matis probably the most populated.

I would reccomend though seriously picking whichever race you find the most interesting. If you look around, you can hop a trek to a more populated land within a couple days and do your gaming there, regardless of the race you pick.

take whatever you want from race yourself, we can trek you from anywhere to anywhere almost solo so...
for starter pack take Magc, craft, harvest definitly!
you whack some yubos on the newbie land and buy yourself from the loot a sword and your off for melee! no starterpack requiered

I would take Sehraci's advise on the starter packs..
As for race you will be fine with any of them.. But pick the one that appeals to you the most... you could be playing with your toon for a long time... might as well pick a race that will hold your interest. :D
