Some thoughts about XP cristals...

Come in, pull up a chair, let's discuss all things Ryzom-related.

Im really dont want to delete content for myself :D
All I want, that Ryzom did not become one of those simple casual trash games.

another problem that i`m starting to see is with everyone level twice as fast, they need new gear twice as often, and not everyone passes on their old armours/jewels/weapons to other homins. Sure there will be more crafters also but something that need to be adjusted in accordance for this new super fast leveling is increased supreme mat source content, and boss mob mat increase also (or reduced pop time).

I know you will reject this saying that sup stuff should be rare etc, but to compensate for this new gameplay it would need to be slightly altered.

I see Outposts as a resource, they produce desirable materials, Elevation Crystals, Flowers (Intelligence, Wisdom, etc) and crafting materials. They are also closed off, unlike harvested materials or quartered materials, and that is done deliberately to create a desire to own one. The envy, greed and distrust that we see is a result of seeing something that you don't have access to or wanting more of. The Outposts are deliberately arranged so they belong to one guild and this is solely to create a potential war situation.

A significant factor is Nevrax's financial position. Since the most successful games, such as Eve, Guild Wars or War of Warcraft have a significant amount of PvP then it was probably easier for Nevrax to raise money by citing these as elements that would increase the number of players and revenue. It is much easier to 'sell' financial recovery by comparing to a successful game than to strike out on some new and bold path. Only based on experience of a similar situation, I guess that the Outposts, towers and other PvP elements were part of the conditions to get the finances.

Nevrax obviously have a plan to increase PvP content and are following it alongside the R2 development.

The Outposts and their materials are supposed to be the trigger and reason for war.
Thank you Kindle, you saved me a lot of writing :) .

The only thing I would add is that the crystals are fairly obviously intended to help new players level up quickly to a point where they can have significance in the new Outposts/Spires endgame.

From a personal point of view, I used a few that I got from Christmas presents, but won't be using any more. Free xp of any sort has always diminished my enjoyment of MMOs and the sense of achievement I get. As others have said, it is the journey that I enjoy.

This disagreement is over personal ethics so I doubt theres anything I could say that would convince people either way.

Keep it simple... xp crystals are encouragement to conquer outposts. I'm very disappointed to have never been attacked. Lower the rate = less encouragement. I have never been attacked. There should be more encouragement.

you do know that xp required to lvl is linear (based the data i have) from lvl 125 (around 60k xp) to lvl 250 (around 185k xp), right ? ;-)

* xp given is in fight/magic/forage tree, craft is around 60% to 75% from that, i think

Well, both Zok and Project Mayhem have received XP crystals as generous gifts. I have been using q100 ones to allow my jungle digging to catch up with my forest and desert digging to supply jewel crafting mats.

From my point of view, I have less problem using them to improve experience from already learnt actions (Closing the gap from Zora digging @ q73 to Desert @ q170) than using them to advance my best skills. I get plenty of grind time just working on the jewels and a short cut to more grinding mats seems good to me. :D

Well, as I implied, the use and interest of xstals is clear, at least for the players that chose to use them. Another factor is their availability, although it may be very possible that there will be new methods of getting honor points and buying them at the temples for those that don't own an outpost or for whatever reason they can't get them

One would hope so. I'm worried about what I'll do when my supply of Kami picks runs out (about the only thing I've spend my honour points on). I'll need that extra focus when my q240 armour finally breaks ;)

Does anyone know if the outpost special recipes allow crafting of picks with focus bonus?

Can't be that hard for some people to organize an attack I think...
There must be _some_ homins out there who just love to attack.

And sorry for going off topic.

I've seen several people here say they cannot find people to do crystal trades with. I've seen one person offer to do this.

Well I'd like to offer also. These crystals to me are more about the interaction I get with others than the XP I get form them. To me they are an RP and interaction device that I'm quite enjoying.

I can't accomidate everyone, but I'll try. And I promise to not rip you off. I will be only fair with any I deal with.
