Why would I need all range credit if I am correct?
Thanks guys
Open with an attack that has no range credit, so you can start as far away as possible. But then as it gets closer use max range credit to save yourself HP/sap. Not like you can stay far away the whole time.
For elemental, your to-hit is your level. Say you have lvl 90 ele, your spells to-hit are considered 90. For afflictions, it is the spell level. Use an 80 spell stanza and your t-hit is 80.
Resistances are unique more or less per mob type and level. The higher the mob's level, the higher to-hit you need to hit consistently and for max damage (in case of ele). Some mobs are immune to certain kinds of magic (Kipee are immune to acid, mektoubs immune to blind, etc.) and some absorb magic damage, e.g. you normally do 1000 damage with your cold spell, but if you use it on a Kincher, it only hits for 700 (1000). The first number is the actual damage done, and the one in brackets is the damage potential of your spell without absorbs.
Then one other thing... if you check your character window, you can see you have resistances in all 5 ecosystems (Forest, Desert, Jungle, Lake, PR). Your resistance for the ecosystem you are currently in is always 10 lower than it's usual value, meaning that in desert, you are easier to get hit by Fire, etc (hover your mouse over your racial resists in character window to see which spells belong in which ecosystem). This also applies to mobs, so once you get your racial spells, it is best to use the appropriate one for the ecosystem you're currently in. Once you get high enough level though this won't matter much anymore. I've been using electric as my only spell since I hit lvl 200, and I rarely have trouble hitting mobs suited for my hunting level. The only thing I switch to the racial spell for is purple bosses and nameds, since for those I do actually notice a big difference in performance.
Afflictions at high lvl I can't say, but at lower lvl, you're better off using the correct one for the ecosystem you hunt in. Hit chances improve drastically.

Does this mean that as I am Fyros, my racial spell will be fire? Or can i learn the spells inherant to other races as well?
you can learn them all
If I fight mobs in Fyros will Fire always do the highest damage or can some mobs resist that as well?
generally but not always
When I get Fire and it is level 1, will it still be a good spell to use against "my level" mobs?
yeps
Elementalist here I come!!!!
Thanks for all that help, especially Rushin, for getting me really excited with the Race thing
Y'know something occured to me last night.....all you elemental mages out there are conniving gits! You leave all us Melee-rs out there on the front line to hack away at mobs, giving us the impression that you are all puny little elves or something
I have never levelled a skill as quickly as this! I was given a few Levelling Crystals by Jela (I only got about 1 level from them at about 35, and thier use will probably inspire another post from me ), but the rest was genuine solo grind, I'm now 81, I got the last 45 levels in about 2 days, attaing that level in melee took me ages
Thanks again for all help, it is greatly appreciated

The first one, it depends... varinx for example are hard to hit with anything but fire (in fyros lands at least)... but they absorb fire damage... so in effect, you will hit them for less damage, but you will hit them more consistently than with, say, acid. Other than their inherent resists, your chances of doing max dmg increase as you get higher lvl. Just like with melee, it's possible they resist (dodge/parry), absorb (like blunt/pierce on kipee), or partially resist (dont do max dmg even before absorb kicks in).
The second one... yes... racial spells start with a 140 stanza at the same time you can upgrade your other spells to 140. From then on, they upgrade just like the others.
