I don't understand :(

Post by dhuberma »

Hello,

I wanted to buy the care planning stanzas "Resources Preservation 1" and "Ground Stability 1". The Action Progression window reported the cost of each was 30/35. By the time I got to the Harvest Trainer, I had 40 free skill points. I purchased "Ground Stability 1", and all of a sudden the cost of each care planning stanza was now 10/35.

I have seen this happen (especially in the Magic trees), but I don't understand why, and I think it's important for me to understand this if I'm going to be able to properly plan skill purchases.

Best regards,

It's because a lot of actions you buy at the trainers are made up of different building blocks (called stanzas), and a lot of those blocks are the same for multiple actions.

For example; Ground Stability 1 will probably be made up out of the base careplan (20 skill points), the actual "stability 1" stanza (10 skill points), and a focus counterpart (5 skill points). Alltogether, the entire action costs 35 skill points, but because you already had the focus counterpart from learning another action that also had it, Ground Stability 1 only costed you 30/35.

Resources Preservation 1 is made up out of the same base careplan (20 skill points), the actual "preservation 1" stanza (10 skill points), and the same focus counterpart (5 skill points). When you learned the Ground Stability 1 action, you learned the base careplan worth 20 skill points, so you don't need to pay skill points for it again when you learn Resources Preservation 1. All that's left for you in that action is the "preservation 1" stanza, which is 10 skill points.

In the magic trees, a lot of the spells use the same counterparts. Learning one spell that uses "credit sap 5" will lower the skill point cost of all other spells using that sap credit, because you only have to learn it once.

Tell me if that didn't make sense and I'll try again, after all these months I tend to use Ryzom lingo without realizing a new player doesn't understand what I mean :)

Sidusar did a great job of explaining why it happens, I won't add anything to that.

But I will mention what is basically the end result of it:

It doesn't matter what order you buy skills in, it will always end up being the same number of skill points spent, regardless.

That was an excellent explanation. Thank you, Sidusair!
