Does the patcher have a resume type function? At this time I would be inclined to say no. I tried to patch the game last night, but my connection died in the middle of it. I retsarted my connection and it started over from the beginning again. I must have been through at least 15 seperate files or so. I know from other games that I play, if the connection drops, the patcher takes over from the file that it left off at.
Anyone know?
edit: the other reason I would like to know is because of the fact that if teh oatches are indeed over 300mbs, that will take me quite a bit of time to download and since I am not the only one that uses this computer, I can't keep the patcher going more than like 12 hours at a time, usually overnight.

Re: Another question on patching...
In my experience there is no resume but we were on isdn at work with an auto 2hr disconnect and it was evil somedays to get the patch done. I would disconnect and reconnect so that I could get a good 2hr run at it and eventually I would get all the files down. I'm inclined to think that once you get 100% of a file you are ok (as it then patches that part before downloading the next file).
We got broadband installed the other day so I'm even happier at work now
It has been discussed before about having .torrents for this sort of reason and they really should set it up imo (swiftly volleys the ball into Nevrax's court)

Actually, for me torrents wouldn't work as well. I have tried torrents 2 different times with 2 different games, one being WoW and the other DnL:SoG. Using a torrent with dial-up is worse in my opinion then just patching straight from a server.cygnus wrote:In my experience there is no resume but we were on isdn at work with an auto 2hr disconnect and it was evil somedays to get the patch done. Re: Another question on patching...
The patcher downloads files individually. Therefore if something happens during the middle of the patch, it will retain all the files that it had completed downloading. I think this is why it used to work in linux even though it would crash without applying the patch and the perl script could be used instead.

so you are on dial up?
ive bn there with ryzom and it sucks
the patches can b done just fine althought they can a fair bit of time
hav you got a 2 hour disconnect? if not then it is easy, if u do then the 20+MB files are almost impossible to get within 2 hours
/off topic
*thinks back to the days when i had dial up*
if it wasnt for posmo i wouldnt b playing this game anymore
/on topic
the resume feature works after each file as long as it has been thingyd to the computer after it has been downloaded
gd luck with dial up, u may need it

Re: Another question on patching...
Nope, I can leave my connection going (if it would go that long that is) indefinately and there would be no forced disconnect. The longest though I have gone without a disconnect was 4 days. I had some computer problems yesterday, and one of the things I did was put a hardware modem back in and that is why I got the disconnect. Believe it or not, my software modem is much more stable than the hardware modem I own. They are both USRobotics as well.sumoman wrote:so you are on dial up?

What I was patching I guess were pre-files and I wasn't actually at the patcher. It was more of a MS-Dos type window. I bugged my brother-in-law to allow me to use his DSL connection to download all the patches. So, I am all set now as far as that goes. Twenty MB patches shouldn't be any issue for me as I download WoW, SWG, EQ and EQ2 patches all the time .
