hell no!kazaam31 wrote:Do MMORPG´s need PvP to be fun ? hell yeah
U can play whit "friends" and explore, team up to lvl or just have fun even if it doesnt include xp, MMORPG isnt made in basic for pvp, there are many non pvp MMORPG games.
One thing id like tho, if there could be 1 additional server(so one non pvp just rp and other one is just pvp) on each language?
This would be great for those that despair pvp and those that love it...this would maby also keep more players playing.
This is a suggestion i think that many would agree whit me on, hope u understand that the comunity needs more choices to "live" more freely in this living planet. *makes new post whit poll*

ROFL, I do the same man... I finally quit with the tag because of the cooldown... I would be crafting away or AFK and Fasinus has done that to me several times. Its merely an annoyance, but not worth losing my focus for crafting because kids must playamitst wrote:I chuckle when I come back from afk to see who has nuked me: so far its only been Lewy, Tser, Padawan, and Audrey. But certainly that should grant them KOS status in my book, no?

Very well said!totnkopf wrote: There is also the nature in which the PvP is being done. If I TP into a region, there is a lag from my computer loading up. There have been times where I've been attacked while I was in the lag of the graphics loading. Not exactly honorable, nor fair as I have no way of targeting them or fighting back.
There is also the repeated killings of diggers. A q250 digger in the jungle has only one place to go to get mats. Having a patrol of PvPers coming and killing you isn't fun. And the PvP tag has such a long timer on it that it either forces the person to do something else for that 30 mins or an hour or whatever it is, or to return to diggin and hope that the patrol doesn't come by.
Don't get me wrong. I enjoy pvp, but I think it requires a mature mind to do it properly. If I'm naked at the stables crafting away, its probably not the best time to nuke me. I'm not a threat, nor am I even a fair fight. No honor in killing the unarmed. I could turn my tag off, true, but in the amount of time it would take to simply turn it off, I'd have been long done with crafting.
And if someone does attack an Infinity member, they shouldn't then be complaining to see us react and come after them in force. all for one and one for all. You attack one of us, you attack all of us.
I when it became available to me immediately turned my PVP tag on. Not because I actively seek to kill anyone, but it was a social experiment. I am from a different era and genre of gaming entirely. Online Games were ALL pvp intially.
There is honour in being a good sport about killing an opponent, and there is also something to be admired about an opponent who after you gank them fairly and squarely CONGRATULATING you on the manner in which it was done.
I got ganked by a number of lowbrow players when porting into Kami lands the other day. repeatedly, the first time was while Spawning.
I was even told by guild mates that having the tag on was a 'bad idea'.
Both these groups of people do not understand what PVP is or should be.
PVP isn't player against player getting the most cheap kills possible. If you spawn camp in Ryzom or in Quake, you're a lamer. Either way, you're just taking advantage of another at their weakest to boost your self esteem.
PVP is now part of the game, it's also been made completely optional. If you dont' want to participate, there are options, but I will go back to my stated opinion that I should keep my tag on at all times, I don't necessarily want to try to take you out before you get me, in fact, I'm a new enough player that I won't survive most any battle in PVP. I turn my tag on because I need to prove a point(s).
FIrst off, if you attack someone at random, especially dishonourably without knowing them you're not thinking clearly... do you know how powerful they are? Their friends?. Odds are if you repeatedly spawn camp someone, you will regret your decision.
If I decide to actively participate in PVP -- and you best me fairly in a duel I participate in or a fight I pick through my words and actions, then kudos to you and I'll shake your hand for it verbally at any rate.
Odds are I'll not actively engage in much PVP, but feel it adds a level of excitement, or will when I start to suffer from the high level 'done it all, seen it all, leveled it all' phenonenon, and while I'll not take advantage of cheap easy kills, may challenge the odd player and pursue it only if there is clearly mutual consent to do so.
It's a game folks, please be decent to your enemy, they are a real person behind that avvie and they choose to be your 'enemy' in the game to enhance both your play experience, so be a good sport please.
I still will return to my commitment to turn the tag on and hope that all who read this understand that just having that tag on does not mean the person needs to be attacked, their words and actions are what dictate that, not their merely being karavan or kami aligned, in fact, unless you know that is your goal -- to attack the opposite faction on sight at all times, and realise that will forever consume your online game time (as they retailiate), think careful about who you attack.
Re: Do MMORPG's need PvP to be fun ?
A game needs pvp to be an option in it but not to be based around the pvp as a game.
Almost no mmorpg I've ever played in recent years has understood this, they have either been mainly pve based with a little badly implemented pvp, or they have been a total pvp fest where everything revolves around and is affected by it.
I'd love a game where pvp is an option but the rewards/penalties limited it from being the ruling factor in how I go about my business in the game.

Re: Do MMORPG's need PvP to be fun ?
I don't think u need PvP at all. But if you have it what it does is test the community - the trouble with games is there is an attitude of 'if i can i will', it's understandable to an extent becuase there should a sense of escapism when playing, and the ability to act in a way you are unable to irl.
However with PvP and it's current implementation leaving your tag on (which i have done since it was patched) shouldn't be an invitation to be nuked at random, or indeed to kill everyone tagged from the other faction. I've walked through Yrk a few times, and had a couple of fun RP chats with tagged karavan players. It makes things interesting for sure, adds a new level of politics to the game. Of course the eventual outcome depends on the community - if there is a critical mass of 'kill em all' tagged players then it's just asking for trouble to be tagged and all the fun will disappear (from my perspective). As things stand at the moment I'm finding the risk worth it, maybe that will change who knows.
I'm hoping that the FvF will go through different phases as the story continues; at present there is no reason to agressively hunt every tagged player, but in the future it might be exactly the right thing to do. If you are tagged then you have to be prepared for the worst and (hopefully) pleasantly surprised when things turn out much better Even in the smallest community you're gonna get people who treat PvP like a FPS, but if they are in the minority then it's something i can live with.
seem to have meandered way off topic there, oh well

Thank you! I just had to believe at least one other person sees this . There are obviously a few that should be forced to read and comprehend this thread before being allowed to login again.rushin wrote:

Well one thing to consider, before there was MMO's there were FPS games if you wanted to challenge yourself against a non-computer player. While there were a couple lamers back then, they were few and far between, and in general, FPS players have in my experience been as mature about PVP if not more than I've seen in other genres. Honestly, it seems as if PVP in MMO's is newer and the younger generations haven't had as much to judge but say counter-strike, so their experiences have been possibly more negative.
Even in the smallest community you're gonna get people who treat PvP like a FPS, but if they are in the minority then it's something i can live with.
The FPS comment mind you could have been intended as you meaning that in an FPS the imperitive is that you wipe out the other team, not that people in FPS games are less mature. There's lamers everywhere sadly, but thankfully, almost every game that has such a mechanic either installs something to combat the lamers or fails horribly.
Re: Do MMORPG's need PvP to be fun ?
Its not so bad because I usually go afk in towns, so I jsut respawn again in town when they kill me while afk, which happens pretty much every day. Luckily enough I can defend myself i'f I'm not afk and an aggresor shows up.
(referring to Rushin's post and perspective) I figure the choice starts with me, and if I turn off my tags because of all the people that think it means KOS, then the terrorists have won so to speak.

Re: Do MMORPG's need PvP to be fun ?
sorry wasnt very clear there. was in no way a slur on the FPS crowd - my first experience of multiplayer gaming was a group of us lugging our 486's round to someone's house for *insert addictive substance* fueled deathmatches What i meant was the attitude of wiping oponents as #1 priority, works good in a FPS where everyone has the same idea but not so great in a RPG where there is a lot more depth and character/story development.sluggo0 wrote: The FPS comment mind you could have been intended as you meaning that in an FPS the imperitive is that you wipe out the other team, not that people in FPS games are less mature.
