I'm Tacola Fyros Newcomer

Post by tacola »

Hey all,

I come from the world of SWG ( another NGE causality ), where I had the same name. I Started SOR last night and I loved it. Made it to lvl 5 magic and 3 Fight. I am at a point where I need some help. When is the time right to leave to island, will the helper NPC tell me? Also, I went magic on all three of my action pools ( I was a wizard in EQ for 5 Years), it seemed to give me more magic options but not much else, which I am ok with. Judging from what I have seen, I am looking for an active guild to join that is willing to help me in direction of development as to the needs of the guild. The crafting/Extracting aspect of this game is something I diffenetly plan on exploring. I am also thinking of buying the Box game to get manuel if you think that is helpful. Any advice of help for a newcomer ?

Thanks in advance =),

Don't bother with the manual. The version in the retail box is extremely out of date in relation to the game a year after its release.

Level 20ish is usually a good time to leave the starter islands. I'd also suggest working some on melee as it'll help give you more HP for casting magic with later on. Plus more HPis always good.

If you're looking for a guild, make a post in the Guild section of the forums saying what kindof guild you're looking for, your race, and what kind of play you enjoy. And I'm sure you'll get many respponses and invites.

Welcome to Ryzom. May you enjoy your stay.

hi & welcome :)

few things to know about the starter packs. as u found out taking 3x magic gave u lots of shiny stuff there but nothing else. for you to learn crafting or harvesting you need to save 50 SP (each) from your magic or fight pool and spend them on a starter pack for these skills. You don't need to do this for fight, just buy a weapon from a merchant and go hit things ;-)

It's technically not a problem to do things this way, and you can't make a wrong choice as everything is still learnable, but saving sp can be tricky when there are lots of things to train.

Generally the easiest way to start is take one of magic/craft/harvest. As has been mentioned its very benefical for mages to get some fight levels, as you'll a) be able to stand up a bit longer in a fight, and b) you can power your spells using hp (right click an action in your hands bar and choose edit to have a look at this)

don't get put off by the steep learning curve, just expect to be a bit confused for your first few months here :D

There isn't really a class system in Ryzom and even if you start off as one thing you can generally change across to another. I have created about 10 starting characters and have settled as magic/harvest/craft as the starting package that suits me best.

For the first few levels use Acid and then finish off with melee using the magic amps. This will give you both magic and melee experience.

I found it important to get a good weapon such as a 2H axe or sword. This will accelerate your level improvement. I used to equip the sword, cast Acid and finish off with melee.

At the beginning you will be starved of skill points in Harvest and Craft and it can be a bad idea to spend those points on melee or magic.

This is a great game and you will continue to find new things as you progress. Crafting and harvesting is definately worth doing, almost everyone does some harvesting and crafting and others specialise in it.

The boxed manual is out of date but there are a lot of fan-sites can help you.

Hello and Welcome!

I am also an old EQ hand and I have to agree with what others have already said here, there really is no rigid class leveling structure.
You would more than likely benefit from remaking your char with a selection of starter choices magic/craft/harvest as the extras you got for choosing full magic are very easily and quickly gainable anyway.
As said above if you decided that you now wanted to do craft and harvest, it would cost you a lot more skill points in the long run. When you are new it is better to have more choice for fewer skill points in my view.
The manual really is not needed as the community here is the most helpful you will ever find.

As for finding a guild, you need to know what path you wish to travel on, whether it be Karavan or Kami or neutral and then find a guild that fits these needs. Take your time to check out different guilds website etc to see if they are the right place for you to begin your homin life on the mainland. You will more than likely meet many different homins from plenty of different guilds, it may be you decide to join them due to helpfulness and friendliness of that person, or that you like the stance of a guilds way of thinking. Whatever you decide, there are plenty of choices out there.

On getting to the mainland I only have my own experience of that, I got to lvl 20 in a skill on the starter island and found the transition very smooth at that level, though I think you could go a few levels earlier if you are happy to and want a few more faces about the place to chat to.

Hope this helps and please feel free to /tell Kyella if I can be of any help.

Since I was focused on melee when I first started out, I decided to come to the mainland as soon as I was able to kill the Weeny Kippee on the start island by myself. If you're not concerned about that, come over sooner. As soon as you feel comfortable with the controls and mechanisms in the game, teleport over.
