I've mostly been leveling my crafting with materials I forage myself, but I have a nice little cash reserve and thought I'd try and convert some dapper into xp. That got me wondering if there were some items that give better xp for the money.
The equation for this is <XP> / ( <cost of mats> - <vendor value> )
At level 14 crafting, my Tryker found the following: (I left my notes at home, so this is from memory)
L5 Earing 1.62 xp/dapper
L10 Earing 1.84 xp/dapper
L5 Pants 1.82 xp/dapper
L10 Pants 1.45 xp/dapper
L5 Chest 1.82 xp/dapper
L10 Chest 1.53 xp/dapper
(the L10 Pants and chest values may be off by a 100th of a point or two!)
This is all with store bought mats to ensure consitency of quality.
Has anyone else looked at this for other items? Does anyone know how crafting level affects the xp return? Please post your own results below.
Crafting: Best XP for the Dapper
Re: Crafting: Best XP for the Dapper
Up to lvl 50 it's most effecient to lvl with q10 mats. Possibily up to lvl 60, too, but it gets very very tendious then. q5 may be a better option up to lvl 20-30 perhaps, but only if you have a *lot* of patience.
Still, I would generally avoid to lvl with q5 or q25 mats, because you make a degraded item that way, which give you less exp than usual.

Re: Crafting: Best XP for the Dapper
I don't see why you'd get different values for pants and chests, they should sell to the store for the same ammount, and they both use the same mats to craft. Maybe you leveled up at some point during your test? The exp you recieve is based on your level.
Anyway, I've found crafting QL10 items to be the best exp all the way into the 30-40s, then they start to tapper off and you have to move up to QL20 or more. This is working with weapons and armor, I haven't done much jewel crafting. I just pick the item I can make that needs the most mats as they give the most exp per item, then make a bunch of them and sell em back to the shop, then repeat till I'm out of dapper.

Re: Crafting: Best XP for the Dapper
Presumably we'll reach a point where making items upto QL50 (which I think is the highest you can buy from the store) will yeild a small amount of xp? What level would this likely be?
Re: Crafting: Best XP for the Dapper
I made the chest last and leveled to 15 by making the final chest. It's possible the pants were somehow of degraded quality, though I didn't get a message saying such.darq787 wrote:I don't see why you'd get different values for pants and chests, they should sell to the store for the same ammount, and they both use the same mats to craft. There do seem to be items that give slightly better xp rewards, and it's not always true that those are the items made with higher level mats. I currently get much better returns on L5 earrings than L10. Spending 10k dapper on materials I'll get almost 3k more xp making the former over the latter. For armor, at my level, it's the other way around, but I assume each item has it's own sweet spot. Items that require more mats may gross more xp, but I can't take it as a given until I see net figures per dapper. Of the four items I can make there is a 400 xp difference for each 10k dapper spent. Probably not worth the additonal time to make all those L5 earrings, but it does raise the possibility that there is an item I don't have the plan for that may give a better return rate. It may turn out that differences are just rounding errors and the spread will remain small. Only the numbers can really tell.
Re: Crafting: Best XP for the Dapper
Perhaps you sold them at the local suppliers. They buy some of the crafted items for more than the usual price.
