Used to be all even but now the 2h weps have been adjusted such that there are differences. IIRC......

Sword is still the same.

Axe and Mace do 20% more damage at 10% slower speed.

Pike has longer reach meaning you take 10% less damage but now do 20% less damage at 10% faster rate.

In PvP, there are obvious advanatges to the ignore armor and reach advantage of pikes. In PvE, pikes really took a hit in effectiveness cause you use a 20% decrease in power is not offset by a 10% increase in speed. In addition, you use more HP and Stamina with each hit so you need more healing. I don't think Nevrax thought too long and hard about these changes before doing them.

Where the pike has a real advantage though in PvE is when you are fighting in team and you are the only melee. The longer reach of the pike w/ circular attack really helps you hold additional mobs on you and keeps them from peeling off on healers and elementals. When fighting 5* purple plods for example a pike using melee dude is a real solid addition to a team of mages because once the plods start cloning themselves, you can hold 2 or 3 easily for a full fight to their death....you can even hold 4 or 5 at a time sometimes though you won't be able to do it every time.

Actually if you pair the pike with medium armour you balance out due to the lesser malus of medium armour. So the healers don't have to heal you more.

I suggest great kinchers for every melee branch, last I checked they had no protection against any damage type. On a side note, the only other creature they have this in common with is the yubo :)

Take a look at my list [thread=17276]here[/thread] if you want to find out which creatures have protection against your weapon of choice. Though it's a few months old by now and it's possible some changes have been made in the meantime, so let me know if you find anything incorrect.

Pikes have a good advantage in the ignore armor ability, which allows them to do decent damage to any creature. A pikeman stands a much better chance against a creature with high piercing protection than a sword- or axeman does against one with high slashing protection. On a creature with no protections however, a sword or axe will do much more damage than a pike.

I wonder why nobody uses maces. True, slow is pretty much useless, but when do you have enough credit to use anything more than accurate attack and increased damage anyway? Apart from that they do the same damage as axes, and unlike axes they aren't 50% resisted by plods.

Maces special attack of slow is the weakest of all damage types. Before the modification it was

ignore armour > bleed > slow

Haven't fooled around with mele much after the change to see if that is still the case. However I'd still value Ignore armour and bleed over slow anyday ;)
