Coming of Age (New Player)

Greetings! I am giving the game a try on the 7 day pass and I have a couple of questions.

1 - I love to roleplay is there a good community of roleplayers?
2 - I have read several times quests really have no value other then fame, is this true as I do like doing quests.
3 - Im not real big into PVP unless it happens to stumble upon me, they attack the village I am in etc. Then I'll fight my heart out. Will the PVP stay opinional?
4 - What is a good race, class to start with?

Welcome to atys
There is a good roleplay forum on atys, with a few guilds specialising on it, http://ryzom.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=49 have a look, a few stories which are a nice taster.
Quests/misions are rather pointless when it comes to lvling but they do have their uses, some have unique rewards and story lines (rite missions) so they arnt what you would spend a long time doing but are a good change of pace and fun.
PvP is currently optional, they have plans to expand it but we'll wait and see if that happens, as alot of people are protesting about that. The system atm is certain areas are PvP enabled and some and FvF (f=fraction) so if you are kami you fight kara ect.
Races and classes dont matter really, all class can be done no matter what you start with, for examle, i do 2H sword melee, heal, elemental, defencive affliction, dig desert materials so theres alot to do just pick whatever u fancy starting with
Races are mainly about look and starting position in relation to the world (atys) so pick whichever you like (zorai are less popular god knows why) feel free to contact me ingame, by typing /tell kye heya

Welcome merries btw read enough of the lore to know difference between kami and karavan. they have a pretty different outlook.. whatever race you are you can change faction by changing your fame so dont let that trouble u too much.
