Two weapons

Post by deitrich »

What are the disadvantages of usign two weapons? Obviously you can't use a two handed weapon or a shield but there seems no other disadvantage.

Is this correct? Or is there an advantage to using a single one handed weapon?

Many Thanks

AFAIK only that you can also use a shield in the other hand.

Special attacks use twice as much stamina/hp since you get two attacks per round (One per weapon). Add to this that you get the penalty of two weapons rather than one (Wich in many cases increases your stamina usage even further)
That's the disadvantage.

This alone is a big disadvantage and forces dual weilders to build an enormous stamina pool unless you want to sacrifice HP's. :)
Are you sure about this? I'm pretty sure it considers a dual weapon attack as 1 attack as far as Stamina use is concerned (other than malus).

I may be wrong though.

Well when I was using two daggers, one in either hand I noticed a few things. I noticed they didn't hit for as much BUT my defense was a lot better than what it was when I used a two handed sword. The styles do seem to take more stamina but you don't have to be styling all the time, just to stun now and then or to make them bleed. There is no hurry to kill the mob because you are evading a lot.
It's a fun way to fight that's for sure. :D

Yes, i'm quite sure that you also get two chances to parry per round.

No, i'm not sure (Noone but Nevrax can be), but i use dual daggers almost exclusively and it's my personal experience.
The daggers are sucking me dry while a pike or one handed spear hardly affect the stamina at all.
It could of course be that the daggers do 48 hits per minute, but my spear is quite fast as well so i don't think it's the speed.

So i'm not sure, it's just the conclusion that seems logical to me :) I would love to know all the facts about dual weilding though.

Your twinned dagers would be hitting at twice the rate of a pike which may be making the stamina drain greater. A slight counter to this should be that the Pike has 50 malus while the daggers have only 10(?) each.

I haven't dual wielded since FBT and i'm a bit rusty so I may be wrong.

Yes, but i'm mostly comparing to my spear (Lance, one handed), wich is faster than a pike.
I admit, though, that i didn't consider the high speed of my daggers until now, so i'm going to have to shut up and do some testing before i make my voice heard about this again. :)

In either case, you need an enormous stamina pool if you intend to dual weild daggers. ;)
