Getting a new Norton alert.....

Post by yulric »

Since patch on the 7th - I have been getting a URL_DIRECTORY_TRAVERSAL alert from Nortons. I track it and it says its coming from me. Anyone know what is cause? And how I can fix ??

Depending on what kind of Norton you have, it could just be warning you of a change. If you have Norton System Works, it gets its tendrils into everything and warns you about every little thing you do. Do you have a more comprehensive error/warning message? Could you specify exactly what it is and what you are doing when you receive the message? Also, have you installed any other software recently besides Ryzom? Lastly, I will try my best to help, but it may be a good idea to look up the warning message in the help files, manual or on Norton's web site as they usually provide more information on the messages.

Thank you very much for responding Cacophony. I swear I went through all the procedures you mentioned - but I went through them again and did see something I missed. Its not listed as exactly I got -- but found an indirect/similarly named alert and followed it back. Seems these were an issue back in "96".

I was getting it right after the world loaded in and my character popped into the world. I have the Ryzom.exe accepted as a trusted sught, but seems they made some sort of server change on the last patch and I (Norton 2003) sensed it as an attack when it switched servers.

Have fixed it by allowing the new IP/server to be trusted. Thanks for pushing my nose deeper into the books as they say. Brain must have been asleep when I went through the procedures the first two times.

Again - thanks for responding.
