Thoughts on the invasion

Post by lazarus »

As many of you know, today our lands were invaded by a Kitin army. Many people answered the call to arms to defend our towns, with RoA guild leader Endasil making a valiant attempt, and for the most part succeeding, to organise everyone.

I personally thought we did well and was part of the mass who finally brought down the Kitin Commander at Psykopia Knoll, although many of us didn't survive (myself included) due to the untimely intervention of a large group of Choc warriors.

I would say there were between 50 and 100 people there, in various groups and of many differing levels of ability, and apart from the seemingly overpowered Chocs I think everyone enjoyed it. It was a little chaotic at first, with individuals and small groups rushing off and accomplishing little more than getting killed, but eventually we managed to get organised and took the fight to the enemy with varying degrees of success and eventually stemmed the Kitin tide culminating in a fierce battle with the Kitin Commander.

Despite the success of the event, there is one point I would like to raise. With the amount of people involved, it makes it very difficult to try and get so many groups organised. Perhaps during raids the current limit of 9 to a team could be lifted, either to a higher figure of maybe 20 or indeed have large 'raid' groups of unlimited size. One of the problems comes from healing. In the general furor it's almost impossible for team members to stay together, and as a result everyone gets mixed up. No problem with that, but if everyone were teamed together it would make life much easier for healers to be able to simply target those nearest them who need help. I also believe that having a large raid team would help everyone feel more part of the action.

One thing I was impressed with was the lack of any noticeable lag during the event. Even with dozens of players and mobs around, I found the lag was no worse than usual, so well done to Nevrax for that. One thing that was a little odd was the fact that several times all the Kitin simply vanished to be replaced by normal mobs, then suddenly popped back again, leading to a great deal of confusion as to whether or not the raid had ended. I don't know if this was simply a part of how the raid system works, or whether there was a problem we didn't know about, but it got a bit weird at several points with no-one really knowing what was going on.

On the whole though, I think it was a success, and I for one enjoyed it for the most part. I havn't seen anything like it in a MMOG since Nathan Zhao invaded Earth Sector (some of you will know what I mean :-P ).

And finally - let's have more of the same - we'll be better prepared next time :-)

I am happy that someone noticed the attemts to organize everyone. It was lots of hard work, but finally i managed to get most of us together, and we ran in one big group, out to slaughter the final commander.

I really enjoyed this event, and how smootly it was integrated into my own event where i tried to get people to tryker land.

The kitin scouts sees the homin prepare to leave there beautiful
lands of matis undefended.

They gather deep in their foulsome lairs to plan.

Slowly the clatter of claws is heard on the greensward

Suddenly the kitin heards erupt over the lands

The few defenders left in matis cry out for help

Very fun, I can't help wondering if it was actually planned for today anyway and we just rushed it or the invasion was spurred by the GMs trying to stop us Zerging an invasion of Tryker.

(which subsequently failed when lots of non aggro mobs turned into kittins and attacked us :) )

Something that i am missing is the lack of destruction from the invasion. Would be fun if we had to spend some time and resources to rebuild after the invasion. :)

But it was fun, hope the get more like this. It really forced us to get united and work together.

I very much enjoyed being a scout giving enda information on incomming kitten patrols to the big group and finding the commander.

Even tho he leads RoA, Enda still surprises me with his ability to organise a big group of ppl to work together against the enemy :)
