Further beta testing.....?
Further beta testing.....?
Anyway I was basically rambling on about how it feels like we are 'paying' with our time and money for what feels like just 'further' beta testing. And wouldnt mind some in game compensation or acknowledgement for the players who stick through all the rough patches, as the game does show great potential.

Well, to be honest, i think its a fantastic game, its released public, which is fair enough, and you can expect a few bugs with a game on this scale.
Thing is if something happens, you get stuck etc, the responce time is excellent, and they are very friendly and helpfull and take any suggestions on board, which is a lot considering some games i've played.
The game is good, the content fantastic, the people are the best i've ever met on an online game.
Keep up the good work fellers, you have a great game.

Re: Further beta testing.....?
I don't think we need further testing.
What Ryzom need is better scheduling. The community needs to know what and when things are going to happen.
I personally don't like quick reboots that take more than an hour :S
I rather have a patch everyweek that fixes ONE thing then a patch that fixes a lot but no one knows when we will get it.

I agree that if possible, it would be nicer with many small patches than one big that we have to wait for a long time for.

Its a subscription game, you will always "pay for play". Its a persistant world, that will constantly change and be developed. Thats partly what you are paying for. It was released at a stage when they thought it was about ready. There are one or two niggles, but the game seems very playable to me, and this doesn't seem like a beta test. And what sort of compensation are you looking for, for some aspects of the game that doesn't live up to your expectations? Its simple you either play the game because you enjoy it, or you don't. Your loyalty through the 'rough patches' must be based on some form of enjoyment.
Bottom line is, if you want to play, you pay. No compensation for lack of fulfillment of your expectations. If you feel your money is being used to develop the game further you are right my friend. It is. And it will be in the future. Thats the nature of these MMORPG games.
Re: Further beta testing.....?
Ive gone from being an avid supporter of this game to getting increasingly frustrated with it.
I expect the odd bug in games and I expect developers to be able to rely on the people playing to report them so they can do something about them
I don't expect the game to crash around a dozen times in 4 hours (on a fairly high end system). I don't expect to have to file detailed bug reports each time when there is supposedly a reporting system that emails logs to the developers.
I'm absolutely fed up of talking to poor admins who are doing an absolutely sterling job of in game support and trying their best to do tech support. They have my utmost sympathy and thanks for the patient and helpful way they have dealt with my complaints to date.
This game needed more testing before it came out. Each patch should have been thoroughly system and integration tested before release - thats basic software development principles.
I strongly object to having to devote a large proportion of my playing time to making up for deaths caused by crashes, redoing missions because it crashed before I was able to do a time critical mission and simply just watching crash screens/loading screens whilst I try to stay in the game.
This game has the potential to be very very good - nice world, nice background and some fantastic people in the game. But the software is letting you down badly and you need to do something about it or you will lose players.
Lastly, you might want to find some people who know how to write plot thats a little less wooden and actual roleplayers to deliver it - but thats an aside and something I'm sure will improve with time.

Err - you may want to spend some time checking your system there Krone (drivers especially) and hunting the tech forum (if you have already, apologies).
For me this has been the least buggy MMORPG release I've ever seen - I may just be "lucky" but I've only had 2 crashes (both tonight, looks like packet loss) in what must be hundreds of hours of play (I don't have a life, or a job...........)
By the sound of it you've had a really bad client experience. which from my own experience and that of others I have talked to is extremely unusual for this game.
EDIT: Found out the cause of tonight's 2 crashes - my firewall was auto-updating itself........... So that makes it no client crashes down to SoR for me! That is another thing to check for though. I know that Outlook, Windows Media Player, SOE's "BITS" auto-updater and Norton IS in update mode will mess up SoR in one way or another, and not all of those are visible without going into the task manager.
