Random thoughts:

Whoa! This thread kinda back-fired!

I'm glad Nevrax are more strongly enforcing the code of conduct.

His whining can be a bit annoying but suspending him for a fairly moderate post seems a bit excessive. Hope your prepared to go all the way...

Im stumped.

Just as things where settling down this happens.

Many of the threads over the last few weeks have been worthy of locking. I myself got to dislike people that seemed to be nothing but whiners and kept posting the same thing over and over. Then things change, over just a few days the negative posts change their tone and creative discussion is finally taking place.

I was really pleased to see that things where finally back on track so to speak. One of the persons that annoyed me the most made more and more sense and i had to accept that my first impression was wrong.

Then you go and ban him?

Out of the blue, when things are finally a lot better then i have seen them since i started playing (three weeks now), that is the time you decide to start banning people?

Im sorry, but if you start censoring people you really should have done so two weeks or even four days ago. But doing so now will truly create a rift between different players in a way that not even EP2 managed to do.

I hope this wont be as bad as it looks right now, i really enjoy this game and have met some wonderful people here. But if you continue banning people for what on most boards (including this one) would pass as one of the more civilized and eloquently put posts of the day; if that continues theres just no way i will continue to give you my money.

(i do somewhat agree with the general idea, at least making sure theres only one thread for every specific issue instead of 13 new every day. but thats really not what happened here)

heh, think that pretty much sums it up.
I don't much care for him or what he says 90% of the time but on occasion I agree with him. What he got banned for and how he got banned wasn't at all right imo.
If he was to be an example then *somebody* got banned because of *something* woulda been more senseable.

If this newer and stricter enforcement of rules isn't seen from a retroactive point of view (i.e old posts and posters) and begins now, then I don't see why Jyudas got banned. Yes, his tone was rather blunt, and not so courteous perhaps, in the first paragraph of his post (yet, as Gamic pointed out, it could be interpreted in other ways than one)...but the rest of it, really wasn't bad at all (atleast from my point of view).

However, if it is retroactive, I've actually got a rather long list of people you should've banned a long time ago.

edit:

English isn't my first language, as you might've noticed. If you have the urge to point out spelling mistakes and bad grammar you are hereby invited to follow the dark stone hallway to your left, which I assure you does NOT lead to some horrible torture chamber from the Dark Ages in my basement. And let me assure you that when I say "the iron maiden" I'm very clearly talking about bad 80's metal.

Anyone know a good French lawyer with a specialty in Constitutional Law?
The Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen, of constitutional value, states, in its article 11:

The free communication of thoughts and of opinions is one of the most precious rights of man: any citizen thus may speak, write, print freely, save [if it is necessary] to respond to the abuse of this liberty, in the cases determined by the law.

In addition, France adheres to the European Convention on Human Rights and accepts the jurisdiction of the European Court of Human Rights.

I survived Patch 1. :) I'm not so sure about Episode 2.

I add my voice to those who are confused/dismayed as to why grimjim would be banned for that particular post.

And why a couple others have not been banned who have posted worse after him.

I agree that closer moderation is a great thing.

As I started to read my first forum thread in a week and I got to his post - fifth one down - I did not even imagine that offense would be taken. I actually thought that his opening question and subsequent statements were actually quite insightful.

In fact, his final statement turns out to have been quite prophetic!

I am very disappointed in the action, even more so that there has not been a negation of the action and a simple apology that the moderator got a little over-zealous right out of the gate and that a good balance is being sought.

FWIW, the Nevrax team may want to study the difference between change and transition. Change is the event that causes things to be different and Transition is the emotional process that needs to be worked through in order to accomodate the change and make it successful. A weak understanding of transition makes change less than successful.

Nevrax made significant changes, but does not seem to recognize the emotional reality of the transitions that people go through - and different people experience this transition in different ways.

I think that part of the potentially increased flaming/hostility is in fact caused by the fairly radical and abrupt shift to PvP. This completely upset an emotional balance that had existed for most of the life of Atys, and it will take quite a while to achieve a new balance.

This is not to label PvP as bad - it is to recognize the reality of the transition we are in. Excessive responses and too fast pendulum swings by the Nevrax folks will not settle things down, but cause more disequilibrium.

Sorry, much longer post than I intended.

Thanks for listening,
Trip

I think another way of approaching it, is, and providing there is the time to, edit the persons post to remove the parts of the post that are frowned upon, with an explanation of why it was edited.

Person can then, when viewing the post, either a) realise that his/her post was not quite taken as it was intended, (because as the problem often is with text, you do not hear the voice behind it and dont see what mindset person was in when typing) and then in future carefully word things or b) explode, rant, and then give the valid reason to suspend the account.

This is the kinda thing that is done in many games forums, where the persons post is edited, and they are told, that if they continue with such posting action will be taken.

End result = happy customers and an understanding of things to take care of when posting replies.
