Quitting People - A Positive Alternative

Post by grimjim »

OK, here's an appeal to the various people who have cancelled or are cancelling their subs.

Don't.

Please.

First and foremost that's admitting defeat, its capitulation and it weakens the resolve and 'voting power' of the Cooperative/PvE playerbase, which can only increase the problems in the future by causing a community shift.

Secondly, each one of you that goes moves the rest of us an inch closer to going as well, snowballing bigger and bigger.

What if, instead, we stayed?

If we work just as hard as we have in the empty time to bring this community together and give it fun things to do. If we roleplay our protest to the war, if we move towards a third option by moving towards Tryton or building our own.

We have accomplished a massive amount, just as players, with no tools at all. The storytimes, the merger party, the pub meets, the knife fights, the races, treks, great guilds with great community reputations - even amongst people who haven't liked their style.

We believed in this world through Patch One, through the financial difficulties Nevrax had. We asked Jessica difficult questions, we met up in person and became real friends. People have even become real world couples through Ryzom - and in no small part due to the relative maturity of this community.

This is the only online game where, until now, I have felt like part of something, where I have felt my presence has meant something to other players and I wasn't just a cipher.

It was, perhaps still is, a place where roleplay can actually mean something.

Do you have any idea how rare that it? You won't find it on any other online game out there to the degree you have it here - not in a graphical MMO anyway.

So, I propose we stay, we stick it out, we keep doing what we've always done to make Atys a better, friendlier place to play in, we wait for R2 and when we get it, we go absolutely nuts with it, push it to its limit and make some fantastic stuff. If we can do the wonders we did with no tools, just imagine.

Alright, so all the upcoming stuff is PvP. Ep2 will end, the outposts, hopefully, we'll be able to trade with the owners of and perhaps an alliance of neutral/RP oriented or independent guilds could take and hold one together, establish it as a free port known to be under our protection. The FvF area stuff? We can switch it off and ignore it, there'll be consequences to doing that, but we should still be able to get by.

Yes, I still hate it, but I believe in what this community is capable of - IF it doesn't all leave. So I'm asking you all, please, stick it out with me, just a little longer. We've been patient for a year, stuck it out with Ryzom - come to love it. That love is worth 6 more months at least even if we have to grit our teeth.

Isn't it?

All the RP friendly and community minded people - you're needed. What we have is something worth fighting for and that doesn't mean giving up so easily.

Please?

You force me to pull out the big guns.

How can you leave now neun after the massive positive benefit that EP2 has brought to this community? Everyone despite being split down the middle in factions are now pulling together in AD and talking to people that they would otherwise see IG once a month.

I think its defo a good thing that nevrax have done here, my game for the past 4 months or so has been solo digging in the void where id speak to about 5 people at the most each night. Now that im in AD ultimately working as a team with the other kami supporters (alongside the karavan) im having the best fun in ages.

Im looking forward to the new friends and relationships

Sounds good Jyudas, but how about changing all of your avaters into something that reflects this new positive attitude. Perhaps a long dark tunnel with a little speck of bright light at the end of it, or even one of someone sitting at a window in deep thought. I hope others can follow your lead.

Overall I can't say I've seen the positive you mention. There's been a few good moments, but overall no. However I am hoping that the community as a _whole_ can pull together in the face of it and work to something positive.

You may need to change your sig again though :(

My opinion is still dark, I'm just hoping we can make a difference. Whether I change my icon and depart the protest it represents depends on several things.

* Response to this.
* What Nevrax says next and how they respond to people's upset.
* How R2 works out.

I'm just saying I can still see potential and a reason to stay.

I also know myself and that I very often get 'trapped' into drag out knockdown arguments that never cease. I'm trying to stop that.

The weird thing is, some of my 'harshest' critics on here I've seen actually act like nice people in game lately, its hard to reconcile the two but I'm trying to remind myself.

If we can pull it together again I think we can still make a difference, but it depends.

I'm very happy to hear that you've decided to stick around with positive intent. The negativity on the boards have been a big turnoff lately - but I suppose your (and many other's) violent reaction to Ep2 is simply from caring too much rather than a pedantic need to be a doomsayer. Hopefully the venting helped and that you'll all be back to your wonderfully friendly and creative selves. It's been said over and over that the game's biggest strength is its community. The supposed lack of ingame features never (well hardly ever) hindered the the RP/ event organising community before, so why should it suddenly do so now? You homins should give yourselves more credit!
