I purchased the game today and have had the same problem.

I'm running Windows XP SP2 and Norton antivirus and firewall. When I switch the firewall off and click on the Ryzom shortcut the log-in screen appears. As yet I have not gone any further, but from what I have read on this site the suggestion is that the firewall should work. Therefore it must be the settings on the firewall preventing access to the game which, I should be able to adjust.

Aaargghhhhh! Norton the killer! shut down all stuff like that, i promise you, you wont need it.. including MSN messenger and Everything that isn't needed to run the computer.

you say you have norton and a firewall, not sure if you mean the sp2 firewall or norton fire wall, if its norton turn it off and delete it if its just norton antivirus... do the same and get AVG if your running the SP2 firewall.. leave it on unless you have slow connection in game it DOES NOT affect ryzom what so ever, only thing it may do is use up system resources and meby a lill bandwidth.
as for msn.. i always have that going so as to be able to chat with my more important mates
(you dont have to delete norton stuff, just disable it all and see if that works if it doesnt then i give up)
