The PTB seem to have deemed the black ribbon 'offensive' somehow, despite various posts. Something they have done that I feel can only enflame the situation further and impose further on those who are already upset.
Here is an alternative for people to use. (My avatar)

I survived Patch 1. I'm not so sure about Episode 2.

We didn't wanted to "impose further" on you, and we didn't took the decision to remove the black ribbon avatars easily; we knew it wouldn't lighten your mood, but all we asked was to choose an alternative image. Which you did, and the new one is fine.grimjim wrote:The PTB seem to have deemed the black ribbon 'offensive' somehow, despite various posts. Censorship NEVER goes down well on the internet, even in private forums where you have every right its still a massive clanger.Xavier Antoviaque wrote:We don't wanted to "impose further" on you, and we didn't took the decision to remove the black ribbon avatars easily; we knew it wouldn't lighten your mood, but all we asked was to choose an alternative image. The ribbon had many meanings and was not directly offensive.
Now instead of one, readily identifiable graphical message the people registering dismay are split between several images, lessening the impact.
The cynic in me wants to say 'mission accomplished'.

Ahh...censorship...the favored tool of the failing despot. (well, aside from torture and gulags, but those would be a bit difficult in a forum)Xavier Antoviaque wrote:We didn't wanted to "impose further" on you, and we didn't took the decision to remove the black ribbon avatars easily; we knew it wouldn't lighten your mood, but all we asked was to choose an alternative image. They didn't choose a different image, you forced them into it.
I think I understand now how Nevrax gets thier definition of 'consent'.
Be serious, Xavier, there couldn't have been *that* much debate over it.
It hardly took you any time at all.
Wouldn't it be great to see that sort of initiative being applied to introducing some non-PvP content?

In that case, you sp3113d it wrong. In l334 it is 'PWND by N3VR4Xscarazi wrote:*trys to get into the 733+ mode that they seem to want*

Re: Replacement Protest Avatar
Ladies and gentlemen, we would be far better off with using just a single image to retain the same impact.
Which one?
Which one?

No - as expected, the new images are less polemical and do not relate to events such as the London bombing or the Hurricane Katrina anymore, but are more aggressive toward us. That's hardly something we could have wished.grimjim wrote:Now instead of one, readily identifiable graphical message the people registering dismay are split between several images, lessening the impact.
