R2? Don't get your hopes up!

As soon as we elder homins (from the Beta and right after release) and roleplayers are mostly replaced by incoming ganker-kiddies in Episode 3, who will want to play our affectionate stories, riddles and small-scale invasions made with R2?

It's alredy been hard enough to get players interested in player-events until now, as I remember arguments like "BUT - this player-event has nothing to do with the REAL story of Atys" or "BUT - this player-event won't change anything on Atys" or "BUT - there is no kind of Uber-reward for me in this player-event" or "BUT if I participate I'll only lose time I should invest into leveling up some more"...

This aint gonna get any better after more PvP (OPs and these new zones) on Atys; only worse, I assume.

Our goal is not to convert Ryzom into a PvP-only game, and we won't only add PvP content in the future - it only reflects the short-term actuality of Ryzom.

Xavier.

Do I need to understand by that that we will need to wait to Chapter IV to get no-PvP updates? (I understand only the Chapter III as being short term).

Can we have concrete answers to:
* What is "future" ?
* What is "the other content"? (my long term view of Ryzom ends at Chapter III)
* I don't even think about asking dates, who can expect a reply other than "soon"?

Being aware is one thing, oh well, nvm....

Questions:

1) The PVP-flag, does toggling it have a cooldown?

2) Does the PVP-flag make NPC guards attack you when you enter an enemy town?

Apart from R2 which is already in developement for several months, we have currently quite a lot of discussions on this topic internally; there are a lot of things we want to do, but we have to decide what we'll do first.

I see R2 as an excellent platform for players (and Nevrax hopefully) to deploy scenarios but I see it more as a framework to work with a set of given tools and I congratulate Nevrax for that (I should have prefixed my question with "Apart from R2"), I have a pretty good idea of the posibilities of R2, at least in the first versions, and extending it may be matter of several man hours.

The "lot of discussions and lots of things and we need to decide" is, imho, a pretty void answer, and although it may not be true, seems to indicate a lack of advancement/focus/direction specially given the history on things "that we are planning to do in our list".
Gameplay aspects? new possibilities? new lands. new races?
Fame overhaul? new skills? cosmetics skills?

I don't mean to sound harsh, or too whiny (even if I do) but communicating precisely on 'those' things would give players sompething to hold hopes for. I'm sorry but the following are completely void and meaningless to me:

- There are several aspects of the game that we are planning to improve.
- Content for non pvp players will also be available in the future
- There are new features in the early planning stages that will be available as long as the storyline progresses
- We are internally gathering feedback from players to decide our priorities
- ...

ps: Yes, I know, I know... I was reluctant to post this. Specially thiking about new players, and considering that when I saw similar posts to mine several months ago, I used to think otherwise. Fan? I was, probably, yes... have I enjoyed the trip? yes... but when I am honest to myself and I think "maybe Raynes was right" it's sad for me.

ps2: Sometimes I wish we were told something like "you know guys, that's it... that's the game as it is, we don't have the resources to do much better.. You can have fun with it, playing and levelling your characters. We will add some Unreal tournaments, a few random Invasions, and some salt and pepper, but you shouldn't think of it as a revolutionary game, it simply isn't. We are just a business, trying to make a profit. Our vision of the game is no longer doable, we can just hope that the number of new players that can enjoy the game for a year outnumbers that number of leaving players. It's as simple as that".

Xavier, I do appreciate you being interactive here a lot, really. After all, that's also why I'm bringing down some thoughts of mine here rather than in Leanon's allotment.

Also, I do thank you for your fast response.
Unfortunately, the way I interpret it, is that there is no "peaceful" additions in development at this time. And more speculatively almost an advice to unsubscribe and check back later, when it's done™
I don't want to put any words into your mouth, but that's the impression I get. Thanks anyway (really).
And yes, I am being a fair bit touchy at the moment...

marct wrote:Neva, Neva, Neva... this is the exact problem with the current PvP for people who would enjoy defending their land or faction. Me as a lvl 151 basically I am relegated to healing and that is it. (from way in the back) As any of the 40 lvl 250 Nukers can take me out in 1 or 2 casts or 2-3 whacks from a lvl 250 melee. What fun is there in that for the majority of players?

I think they need to find a way to make this implementation more grouped to the region or something. So that around Yrk and in the Majestic Garden region a Lvl 250 attacking the "tower" loses honour points for it's faction overall or somehting. then the lower level players would also have something to fight for. Why should all the 250's run around and determine who rules what when. The others including the new players should be able to contribute.

The benefits should be weighted somehow also. If I am lvl 50 and in a level 200 region I should get more benefit thatn a lvl 100 player from the tower in that region, and a lvl 250 should get less benefit than a level 200 would get.

Noin.
I agree with you, one of the biggest problems with Ryzom is the ever-growing gap between the high and low level players. I being a level 250 player, some times forget how isolated the lower level players feel. Most of the content dose seem to be aimed at the high level players and leaves the casual player left behind. :(

Please consider the impact that "neutral declared folks - Non PvP" could be a mjaor distraction or cause targeting problems for those engaged in a PvP or PvTOWER+guards+Players situation. Are these people targeted as friendly, enemy, or some new class that I can macro? (Is the Faction involved here as well?)

Can I heal a non-PvP player or do the FvF rules apply here?

Noin.

EDIT: Is there a role for diggers and crafters here? Can they be utilized to change or affect the benefit from the tower? Do you need to "Build the tower" after the enemies has been destroyed?

Will the Prime Roots be one of those "neutral areas"? Losing half the teleporters in the Prime Roots would be a serious blow to any with aspirations of foraging in there effectively.

Xavier.

So.

Give us some hope.
Give us a reason to stick with a game that is obviously being developed to not fit our style.

When will we see another kitin (or NPC) invasion?

When will rites be working agian? They were a great idea, if only Nevrax had not been distracted by visions of Ganker's Isle.

When will the NPCs actually have some depth to them?

When will guild missions be implemented?

When will guild halls be usefull for more than additional storage space?

When will new skill trees show up?

Give us something here, anything, really, that does not have to do with extending the gankfest.

OR

Wait until the competition beats you to it, and you can find a new job.
